Dakers
Potentially a stupid question here, so please forgive me... What should you do if you a live/unfired cartridge that you need to dispose of? It's not come up in safety discussions when I've had lessons, but something that occurred to me the other day. Not sure what circumstances it might arise from, maybe one that's gone in the mud, or looks a suspect shape, or casing/crimp coming apart maybe? Muddy Funker
It's not something I've had to do before, but what about emptying the shot out then firing off what's left in the gun?
AlistairB
In the field, i cut them open and empty the powder and shot out and chuck the case in the usual 'empties' bag. At home, i burn the powder in an ashtray, keep the shot and chuck the shell in the non-recycling bin , never know when you might need some lead! arjimlad
Empty the shot or pull the bullet, then squirt WD40 into the primer ?

Guest cookoff013
i had a dud cart once, 2 fibre wads loaded in, loud report and low recoil, opened up the gun and burning powder flung everywhere gun, clothes and me on fire. the ejector tripped because of the mechanism, made a right mess. burning powder stains metal..... that was a factory...! oliver90owner
In addition, I know of one gent who 'improved' on the November 5th bangers, back in the day (over 45 years ago). He emptied the lead and made a big bang for the people around. Emptied a second case, loaded it, fired - and seriously demolished the gun! He was lucky that the piece blown out of the barrel missed him, and anyone nearby.
Sian
Ive got 6 sitting in a kitchen drawer which I will take back to my supplier because they are all from the same slab and I reckon 6 misshapen cartridges from a slab of 250 is too many. GingerCat
Throw it in the bin, remove the shot if you like. Give it to an rfd and let him throw it in the bin.
Mike737
Throw it in a garden pond in Leeds, then the new owner of the house can find it, and take it to the police. 'He even put them in his pocket!' (Daily Fail...) Mike.
Harry136
For misfires, use scissors/ side snips to open the cartridge, remove shot and wad. Dispose of powder down sink/ loo. leave primer soaking in wd40 or alternativly hand back to your RFD.
njc110381
Just chuck it on a bonfire. Honestly, I've burned boxes of them and they barely make a pop.
welshwarrior
Empty the shot in it the pot for that size pull the wad burn the powder (don't make a home made fire lighter as a mate did powder rolled up tight in paper). Rubbish in bin. Empty the shot in it the pot for that size pull the wad burn the powder (don't make a home made fire lighter as a mate did powder rolled up tight in paper). Rubbish in bin. Mentalmac
Can I ask, why do you soak primers in oil? Does this render them inert?
Dougy
sodium carbonate will neutralize primers.

camojohn
I saw a program on TV where a bloke was recycling old cartridges from clay grounds. You could hear live cartridges going off that were mixed in with the dead ones. So why not take them to your clay ground and dump them in the bin there.
