AberFowl
Not sure if this question has been asked before For those of you who store your shotguns in an upright cabinet, do you stand them barrels up or down? dougall
down...any excess oil wont seep into action/wood
Glenlivet
After seeing the oil staining on an old English sbs I bought I now store all my guns barrels down!!
BrowningB525
Down for me. There's no disadvantages to storing down where there is a risk from oil storing barrel up.
Blackpowder
Down every time for above reasons. Blackpowder
Jay_Russell
Down every time now. I find I knock the other guns less too
CharlesP
Stock down, barrels up, for me. I avoid oil stains to the woodwork by refraining from slathering the stuff about. That policy has worked well for me for the last 50-odd years. That way I avoid knocking the muzzles on the cabinet, avoid damaging the chokes on the cabinet floor, and avoid debris from the floor entering the muzzles. FatFreddysCat
Both, I can get 5 guns in a 3 gun cabinet by having 3 barrels down and 2 barrels up.
Rst1990
Barrels up for me, I just don't over do the oil, just a wipe down with a oiled cloth works well for me.
Jbob
Barrels up. Like above I go easy with the oild and make sure any excess is removed. Not had any problems yet
oowee
Barrels down but I pop them in a sock first.

Flynn
Barrels down - no sock or anything - just enough oil to keep them safe for a few months and they're good to go.
johnnytheboy
Down, I cardboard lined the floor of the cabinet to protect the muzzles
buze
Both, I can get 5 guns in a 3 gun cabinet by having 3 barrels down and 2 barrels up. Smartass! I love the idea. Thats how I store 5 guns in a 2 guns 'broken down' cabinet too (horizontally)

zipdog
barrels down. I see no advantage to sorting barrels up, happy to learn though?

Danger-Mouse
Barrels down for my o&u with the nice wood, for the reasons already stated. I don`t really mind for my guns with synthetic stocks.
B25Modelman
Down for reasons already stated.

Paul223
Barrels down every time, base of cabinet built up to door lip height with a piece of ply, a whole folded news paper on top of the ply to protect the muzzles and absorb any excess oil. Moderates off, bolts out, chokes out. There is no disadvantage to storing this way, barrels up can cause problems
rimfire4969
Up and down its the only way to shoehorn them all in.
