Roy King
I was chatting to my mates last night about the a good old days, and we got on the topic of guns and shooting like we always do, and what was our first brand new gun and how old were we when we got them. I was 17 in 1974. Had my certificate for 2 months. remember? the little white card, with the red police stamp on it, [issuing authority]. My first ever brand new gun was a Baikal single barrel ejector. I bought it from a Grattan catalogue for £25.00 and paid 50p a week[10/-] for it. Followed by a Franchi hunter 5 shot semi auto 1 year later for £150.00 from the same catalogue. [[4.00] a week. the postman actually left it propped up against the side light window next to the door, It couldn't happen these days. So guys, tell me, what was yours??? PhilR
A Miroku 800 SW skeet gun in 1977 bought from John Eastaff as I'd taken up skeet shooting at Bedford GC.
shaun4860
Almost as above but I was 13 and also left with a Diana, First new gun I bought was a "Shop soiled" Baikal O/U ejector double trigger from a shop called Budget guns and Tackle, First brand brand new I bought was a Beretta 390 with a flat rib from Avalon Guns, I waited for the flat rib as I didn't like the step rib, couldn't hit a barn door with it so swapped the barrel for a stepped rib, things improved, slightly

greenergp
We got an "Argyle" single barrel from the catalogue it cost £27 I was probably about 14 at the time my dad took me out to have a shot of it and i tried firing it like my air rifle and burst my lip open. The catalogue's were great in those days you could get all sorts of air guns, shot guns and crossbows and pay it up at £3 or £4 a week. Danger-Mouse
A Miroku 800 SW skeet gun in 1977 bought from John Eastaff as I'd taken up skeet shooting at Bedford GC. Quality gun Hatsan Escort Magnum that I bought not so long ago for the princely sum of £275. I doubt I`d ever buy a seriously nice gun new. Thinking about the depreciation as I walked out of the shop would trouble my Yorkshire soul.
Scully
A Smith and Wesson Model 19 in .38/357. Nickled with a 6" Patridge front sight and adjustable sihouette rear. I loved that gun.

CaptainBeaky
First brand new one was a mk4 Airsporter, bought for me by my Dad, from Gentry's in Welling, when I was 9. I was just about big enough to cock it! It still lives in my kitchen, in case of of over-hungry pigeons with a taste for my runner beans. Only new shotgun ever was a Beretta Onyx, which was nice, but had to go to pay for a new front diff for the Surf. Never been tempted to buy a new one since... Jbob
SMK XS20 air rifle. Still got it, never shoot it though. The scope that came with it has died a death but I get on OK with the open sights. £150 if I recall correctly. Have never bought any other gun new, all secondhand. Did yours have a thumb shaped lever on the top, [a little like a spoon] just above where the the safety catch would be?

shaun4860
Thinking about the depreciation as I walked out of the shop would trouble my Yorkshire soul. It's not as bad as you think if you keep them long enough, I bought a new Browning XS when they first came out for just under £1200, Part exchanged it some 12/13 years later for £1100 I lost money a year later when I bought it back..lol

From what i remember it had a knurled lever at the top of the action to open the gun,one winter it was so cold the gun froze shut and we could'nt get the gun to open after the first shot of the day. Westley
Having bought my 10 shilling gun licence from the local post office, I got my first shotgun, a Webley single 12 bore with a kick like a donkey (32 gram 6's) ! That got traded in for a AyA Yeoman at £35. After 12 months that was traded for my FIRST 'new' gun an AyA No. 4, at £150 (new) from Bamford's of Eccleston, Lancs. saddler
First NEW gun was a .223 Colt AR15A2 Sporter II - paid £550 for it back in 1985. Early commercial A2 version with slab sided receiver (no push assist) & standard A1 rearsight/A2 front sight & A2 everything else. Barrel was 1:7. Twas like a magic wand....amazing rifle & miss it loads: I'd still have it if they'd not been banned.
