islandgun
Good advice is to use one gun for all your shooting activities, does anyone follow it or do you have a few, ? (Iv'e narrowed mine down to three ! )
BerettaSV10
I have several, but 99% of the time use my 525 and my shooting has improved greatly.
TONY R
We have a a dozen or more eldest lads up in scotland at university, he has Four up there too. so we have a few. If i were to pick one gun to try and cover everything from pigeon game through to goose flighting and fox shooting i think in my collection best gun would be my browning 425 waterfowl cammo 30 inch barrels. I could just about manage everything with this bar the dodgey looks at the cammo on game shoots perhaps. One shotguns a struggle for me but it depends what your doing, if you dont shoot geese hardly ever you can manage with anything. And even if you shoot geese its not compulsory to use 3.5 inch or even 3 inch ammo, can be done with a std 70mm gun with the right ammo. oowee
just two shotguns. A semi for everything and a o/u for pheasant and night shooting (easier to collect the empties).

Whitebridges
For me part of the fun is using different guns with different actions and bores. What you tend to notice though is that you shoot better with some than others but does this really matter?
Jay_Russell
I have a few also but since April I have solely used my browning B425 choked half and full. Confidence going into the game season is far higher than its ever been ! Edited October 10, 2016 by Jay_Russell

They all have different uses, so I have one for each purpose. indeed cant remember what book i got that snippet from , although it makes sense to me to get used to one, "probably", the reason I ask is that I now have a nice english s/s with 3inch chambers which seems a bit heavy for a walk about, but wondered if I should persevere with the same to improve my game ! Stonepark
1 gun is about compromise, more guns are about having a gun for each purpose. Case in point, you are carrying a 3 inch magnum sbs designed for wildfowling on a walked up day where a lightweight gun is more suited. Carrying my 12 ou or auto (both 3 inch) maximises the opportunity of a shot with changing ammo to match species and greatest range, so if only likely to get a shot or two per day, it makes sense to carry. Having said that, my go to gun for a walked up day is the 410 ou and i do as well, if not better than those with 12b as 95% of shots are under 35 yards. What is the point of carrying an extra 3lb or 4lb in weight to tackle 5% of potential shots?

Probably stems from the old saying,"'ware the man with one gun, he can probably shoot it". However, it is an old saying which was more than likely true in the days before clay pigeon was so popular and the quarry was in the main restricted to pigeon/game - and not the stratospheric variety we see today. Scully
Only use semi's, once owned 2 o/u and tried Pheasant syndicate once 'Yaaaawn ! the most boring type of shooting ever. You were obviously in the wrong syndicate! I'm in two and you can use anything you like so long as it's legal; and on various days we've had pumps and semi auto's. We don't get big bags but the social side of it is fabulous! We have people coming with their dogs to beat, who have no interest in shooting whatsoever, but we have a bloody good time! Wingman
I like all of my guns and tend to buy new ones on a bit of a whim. My latest being an old 16 bore SxS which I took out yesterday. That said I find myself returning to my Winchester Select most of the time for clays and pigeon shooting but its nice to have a few others in the cabinet. Could I live with just one gun yes I could would I want to, absolutely not!
Harnser
At one time I had 30 or so guns , but then I was a bit of a collector . I know own just 3 guns , a Mk 60 20 bore ,a325 sporter, and a Urika 11 self loader . I can do every thing I want with these 3 guns . Rember the old adage ,beware of the man who has only one gun ,he's proberbly a good shot . Harnser

The crack was mint Scully, the shooting i just felt was like shooting clays with feathers.Plus i love semi auto's they are just they perfect decoying/roosting tool.If i was still shooting and they banned auto's id throw the towel in.Cant be doing with any break barrel. I only ever had 1 SG at anyone time and the best one of all was an old Franchi AL Hunter. Edited October 10, 2016 by Davyo

What you tend to notice though is that you shoot better with some than others but does this really matter? I'm with you on this, I have no doubt changing different guns has an effect but doesn't bother me, all enjoyable. After all, a poor days shooting beats a good day at work. Longbower
I have 3 , The first is a 12g single, Baikal , I use it with 21g carts as a squirrel gun , and its the one I always chuck in the car,'just in case'. A Beretta 301, for pigeons over decoys , and Zabala sxs, for clays and game. All 12g. Love the simplicity of the single tho'.
hawkfanz
i have 6 and use them all at different times for diiferent occasions, but if i could only have one gun it would be my lanber o/u 20g does everything i need cos i dont do geese,so it performs well on everything else. buze
What about having a backup gun? We just realized that as my wife's gun developed a problem over the week-end. Since all gunsmiths are super-busy at this time of year, it might be more than a month to get it back.. So we're now shopping for a second gun for her... I was planning of perhaps (reluctantly) get rid of my B25 since I now have the CG (because of the 'single gun' rule mentioned above) but now that adds to the argument I should probably keep it... guzzicat
One gun, it,s like having one spanner! Ithaca mag 10, Winchester 3.5" pump. C Hellis 2.75 " chambered S.B.S & a "2 chambered C.Nellis S.B.S. Can,t think of a situation these don,t cover.
Scully
Just buy another cabinet, fill it and then buy another! I have three cabinets all packed to the rafters....you just can't have too many guns! Back in the day when we shot pistols, a mate of mine called in at our local cop shop ( when we still had one ) for a variation form, and was asked by the duty copper ( who knew us all; it was a much smaller market town back then ) why he needed so many guns? He just shrugged and asked the copper why he needed so many golf clubs? You just can't have too many guns.
figgy
If i could only have one gun it would be a semi auto as it is the only true all round gun. Before people start i'm not talking game shooting etiquette here but purely from a shooting point of view, they are light and fast to shhoot easy to carry can shoot wildfowl loads with ease and add a weighted magazine cap can be steady to swing for clays. I have bben threatening to have a clear out of my cabinet for over a year as some of my guns dont get used, its make an excuse to take the 28 bore as my 12g sidelock is more suited to our game syndicate. Dont need three air rifles as i only ever shoot the Daystate Huntsman Classic, the other two should go.
