sako751sg
Been oot a few walks lately and fine to see good numbers of woodcock lately, esp so early. Doing the ponds regular and never seen duck numbers especially teal and had some fine bags, although most are frozen over just now after a spell of hard frost. Plenty of roe cutting about and in good nick and for the first year in many im having a decent thin out for a change. Edit to say,roe does.Always have a good thin out of the bucks obviously. shoot and be safe
Woodcock.snipe would be my guess for the first one with the long beak (pic 9).The lower one (pic 25) I would agree on a woodcock Great photos by the way Edited November 26, 2016 by shoot and be safe
McCloggie
Thanks for the info gents. I thought they were Snipe of some sort but was more surprised you can actually shoot them in this country. I'm originally from the Netherlands and there Snipe are heavily protected and shooting one could get you jailed in the worsed case.

sako751sg
Cheers for the comments fellas. Great still to be able to have the 3 gens going out and a good laugh too,and as said,Macs not the wee boy he was.Pretty chuffed with him and probably couldnt ask for a better lad although like most we have our moments. Right enough about the snipe and woodcock, both legal although the wee Jacks are protected. So far we have had a decent number of woodcock for so early and have never seen the numbers that are showing. We have 6-7 ponds so doing one every couple of days and just on dark we are sure to see a few cock flighting and maybe getting a shot. Someone mentioned not a lot of foxes but the opposite.Hardly post much shooting now but still high numbers of them and have been baiting regular so cant really go wrong. The one in the pic came sneaking up to the pigeon deeks and was nailed with the shotgun. As said before, very lucky where we are not just with the ground and wildlife but get on well the farmers, almost like family with some.
