Davyo
These guys are amazing, just came out of ASDA in Hartlepool @6pm and some poor soal had been ran over on Marine way (dual carriage way) The air ambulance flew in and landed on the exit from the shopping centre (Boots for anyone local) with cars all over the place.I was about 3 cars back and couldn't believe the precision of the landing,to the point where I ducked behind the dashboard in case it went all Pete Tong. Truely totally amazing people.
TIGHTCHOKE
The majority are Ex Forces Pilots and the Para-Medics are very good too.
kennett
We deal with them at work quite often and they are pretty amazing, it still makes no sense that they are a charity!

GingerCat
I know of one hems pilot who got told off for putting the rota blades withing 12 inches of lamp posts. The patient had no chance otherwise.
Lord v
Seriously good pilots. Saw one land on playing fields surrounded by power cables a few weeks ago. I hope I never need their services, but I'm glad they will be around if I ever do. Along with the RNLI it's shocking they are charities. 30-6
One of my favourite charities who i actively support.
Medic1281
They actively want to be charities and not government funded. They are very well supported so money isn't a massive issue, but by not being government funded they have a lot more freedom in what they do and how they spend. Davyo
Well after what I witnessed this evening and sitting in traffic for almost an hour thinking 'what if' I have signed up for £5 per month,I know it's not a lot but since I've cancelled my membership with the RSPB it's not missed & going to a much better cause. Scully
Our local one uses the trotting field and football field when necessary. All the local shops have donation boxes in them and whenever I am owed small amounts of change I often tell them to put it in the relevant box. They have saved many lives around here. Vince Green
I subscribe to our local air ambulance via a monthly draw. I totally think they should be a charity, they function fine as a charity and are not a drain on the public purse. Plus I stand to win £1000 if it ain't broke................... Lord v
Of all the things that are a drain on the public purse I really wouldn't mind them being one. I can understand wanting to be a charity to give themselves some flexibility, (government procurement is a pain) but would be nice if the UK governmemt dipped into their pocket for the odd boat or helicopter. figgy
Davyo when you say some poor soul has been run over. I always think it's usually some stupid sod has stepped out into traffic, could have killed themselves and others. Think all our charitable rescue services do a fantastic job including mountain rescue with the two already mentioned. An awful lot of folk would not be here if not for these charity heros

Just found out it's a 9yr old boy, critical at the moment.Bet the driver not feeling to well either.
Dirty Harry
As others have already said if they weren't an indipendantly run charity then the government would hit them with cuts in the same way as hospitals and the police. My local air ambulance received a £1,000,000 government handout last year. I believe it was some of the Libor fines being redistributed. happypig
My shooting buddy slipped and broke his leg while out pigeon shooting..... I used the ordinance survey app on my phone to give a grid reference to ambulance.... the location was too difficult for a land crew to find.... Air ambulance were the first responders Top result
figgy
Davyo can never understand why they stopped with the green cross code and all the other government information adverts. Sad but kids this day and age think when it goes wrong they can hit the reset button and the game starts over. Hope the child recovers, there is a crossing at that part of road too. Driver will feel terrible, had a few lucky escapes with kids stepping out over the years, one ran straight from between two parked cars into the side of my car and bounced off the rear passenger door, split second earlier he would have gone under the car. CharlieT
They are indeed fantastic and deserve every penny we can possibly donate. They picked me up from an isolated field when I had my second heart attack and had me in hospital before I could blink........... I'm only able to annoy everyone on here because of them!!. Give generously.
Fatcatsplat
My old rugby club at Thornwood just outside Epping was perfect for them - If they were ever short on hours for the month they'd turn up first as they knew they could land
ozzy518
Had one Land whilst I was dealing with an rtc. Cool as hell 😎😎
Westley
A couple of 'poor souls' who had been driving far too fast for the hailstone conditions and ended up checking out the Stewardship land, the other side of the fence, alongside the Motorway, were glad to see the Air Ambo. this morning ! clakk
Watched them pull a "sports climber" off the hill at Dovedale ,super cool sports climber no rope DOH .Luckily the trees and drystone walls didnt phase the pilot and he was soon on his way far faster than any road vehicle couldve got to him .We are very very lucky to have such skilled people a phone call away
