Kalahari
One of the problems of this what have they done question is that sometimes even no change in the situation requires quite a bit of effort and people look on and say well nothing has changed so they aren't doing much. This isn't always true. David.

wymberley
I don't think the new CE needs to shoot, or know anything about shooting. The BASC has plenty of experienced and expert staff with that knowledge. The CE should be experienced in management and organisation, their job is to get the best out of the staff and organisation they have and if necessary, be prepared to make changes to both. PS. The money seems about right. For anyone applying for the job who neither shoots nor knows anything about it, I would be swiftly asking what is their real agenda. Cranfield
For anyone applying for the job who neither shoots nor knows anything about it, I would be swiftly asking what is their real agenda. I don't drink, or like Guinness , but that doesn't mean I couldn't be the CE of Diageo. Alex Cruz is the CE of BA, but he doesn't have a pilots licence. Their expertise is the efficient management of the business, why would they have a negative agenda ? A good lesson in life is, never saw off the branch you are sitting on. I do agree, but when one asks 'why would they have a negative agenda' you only have to think back to 'Shifty Swifty' to appreciate people's concern. However, as far as I am concerned, I am pleased to be a member and have received excellent advice previously particularly from their firearms department so will continue with my membership as I consider that generally they present a good 'front' to our sport both visually and politically. fortune
The money is a bit irrelevant if the bloke is a useless wally. Here is a rough guide link. >>> http://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/worklife/careers/a33179/average-job-salaries-uk/ Looks like I chose the wrong trade. But I enjoyed my job. Recently I heard that the great majority of the population would be on the rocks financially within a month if they weren't waged.
oowee
This ^^ Fortune I just looked through these figures listed in the link and many of them look very low to me. Legal professionals £73.5k ?? Finance and investment analysts £45.5 ?? None of the ones I know would get out of bed for these figures and that's before the bonus, share match and share option. ShootingEgg
Dipper, have you put thos to basc themselves? Ask them what they wany to achieve in say the next 12 months, what does the membership money give the memebers etc. Its all okay bringing it up on an open forum but the real answer would ve from the org itself
ShootingEgg
He's not terribly vocal or visible is he? He doesnt have to be, he has staff that should be on show and willing to take questions. I have found the guys in southwest are great, even working with them on my shoot to get some basc days for youngsters etc. You sometimes get out what you put in, and its not always just about signing a cheque and waiting to be hand fed. Fatcatsplat
I absolutely agree with you - The guys on the ground doing stuff are fantastic, but they're doing it for free (The general chant being "Nothing's free with BASC"). Would like to know, purely out of personal interest, what he does to earn his corn
panoma1
I think there are many organisations/companies where if the CEO went on holiday for months on end, the other employees would not even notice he/she had gone....except of course that the top of the range, luxury company car would not be in the reserved parking space nearest the office entrance! Would like to know, purely out of personal interest, what he does to earn his corn I like your thinking FCS. I asked myself what I would do if i happened to be in charge of the BASC. It's not that easy to work out what needs to be done at a strategic level. The BASC as a brand works well. My case in point is that despite a couple of plonkers running the show membership has actually risen. So what would you do if you were in charge and the top dog at the most important shooting organisation in Britain? The Taste of Game campaign is great, but it's generally held in pubs and restaurants in countryside hubs where you're preaching to the converted - Everyone that turns up has already eaten game already. Try engaging with schools and youth organisations - The scouts are getting great vfm from BASC at the moment and BASC are getting great exposure back. What about doing a BASC food truck with pigeon, rabbit or venison on the menu - They are massively popular at the moment and could easily pay for themselves within months. Young Shots days are generally attended by children of shooters and that's great, but you need to spread the word further - It's another case of preaching to the converted. The more human a face we have and the more exposure that we get to the fact we are shooting to get healthy, free range food into the food chain the better. There will always be antis and that's their right, but it's the guys in the middle ground that we can bring over the fence that matter.
