Might be an excuse for a cushy day off to many, but some people have to consider others rather than themselves. I can understand why you couldn't work on a building site in the snow or a lot of outside jobs, but why can't you work in an office or school? Sometimes you have to man up and get on with it As stated above, everyone managed somehow to get to school or work years ago. Why can't they do it now? Is it worse snow or something? We have turned into a generation of risk-averse namby-pambies. True . I really feel for the carers and emergency people who have to keep going out in it all day ! They deserve our thanks ! loriusgarrulus
Doing the school run on the Tramper. The Grandchildren are happy to walk and play snowballs on the way to school. Not too deep here. Bit cool. Got the thermals on for going out. Edited March 1, 2018 by loriusgarrulus

Words nearly fail? As regards rear wheel drive, just reverse uphill like we used to, oops, sorry no reversing in the modern test? Modern Britain, laughing stock and banker of Europe? The media need something to feed on. The five people killed in the last day or two are on average about normal and looking at a couple of the accidents, the weather had nothing to to with it. I'm off to Lincolnshire tomorrow come what may, but there again I have a Landie. The A1 at Stamford was in chaos but there was only an inch or two. Local authorities had afiled to salt the roads again. Just saw the penguin bit on MSN news Pretty woolly in this part off Lincs (boston) but agree to get on with it as always have done - pigeons not venturing far though ?? So when this happens we have to just accept it. We get this weather for a few weeks or days. Then it rains for the rest of the year. I don't get the panic buying.. I’ve been in Denmark and Germany during heavy snow, everyone has winter tyres, the roads are gritted and ploughed, everyone carries on and the world turns. Well, some staff got in early this morning, so I got home okay. The A470 is starting to get a covering of snow, and I think worse it will get. I doubt if the staff will be able to get home tonight, as I don't think the night staff won't be in.
Scully
A66 is now blocked at Appleby by a jack-knifed lorry; I don't know in which direction....unless its before the bypass, in which case it could be both lanes. Nothing is open as far as I'm aware and we have a complete and utter white out with very high winds. Am awaiting specialist materials for two jobs, which were supposed to be delivered Tuesday and Wednesday, but none has arrived, so am working from home....again. We just aren't set up for the bad weather we get for perhaps two weeks a year in total each year, and to have 50 gritters or snowploughs in Cumbria, another 50 in Northumberland, another 50 in Yorkshire etc etc, just isn't feasible from a financial point of view as they'd be stood idle for about 48 weeks per year, and sometimes more. We just get on with it and muddle through; that's what us Brits are good at. I dug my vehicle out yesterday just to minimise the build up of drifts, and will have to do so again today if I want to go anywhere, but I don't, so I wont. Haven't seen one vehicle on the road through the village...not even the bulker being towed by a tractor. Have just seen Dekers post regarding the bird in his garden; as an indication of how deep the snow is here; we have a fence similar to that, but its buried. All we can se is the top of the hedge. Scully
Patterdale Mountain Rescue were called out to go to the aid of a worker who had slipped and fallen from his gritter/snowplough in the Lakes, according to local news. He is reported to be in a serious condition. Visibility down to less than 100 yds from my front door; am surprised we still have power in these winds. I feel for you mate, we have a couple of inches here, and its described on the radio as 'biblical all the schools are shut and very few cars on the road. Im struggling for parts too from cancelled deliveries, but the roads are quite slippy admittedly, the grit doesnt seem to be clearing them too well ? Howling Hound
Not too bad in South Staffs. We appear to have missed the worst of it. Oakridge ground shut and the CPSA REGISTERED COMPETITION THIS SUNDAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED The local school has advised mothers to wear 2 pairs of pyjamas, whilst taking their children to school... Dont be soft, according to everyone else on here you have to just carry on, rather than have a few days at home, one of the rugby lads posted a ten second video today of his trip to work, three lanes of standing traffic in snow with flashing lights above. hodge911
if the Taliban had any brains theyd try a takeover of the country now as a little bit of snow has the place in turmoil I don't know how those poor people in Sweden or even Alaska cope with the amount they get along with the -30 temps
