Apparently got beaten up in his idols constituency last night , while celebrating his birthday.

BBC News - Owen Jones 'kicked in head' in London street attack
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49381944

He spilled out the pub at 2am , and 3 or 4 'far right extremist thugs' gave him a couple of kicks and ruffled his hair. Quite how he knew the political leanings of his assailants is unclear, possibly swastikas on their clothing perhaps , in a particularly ethnically diverse area ?

No real harm done err, thankfully, as he was immediately able to tweet and post about it on the usual media outlets, blaming the 'rise' of the far right, and obviously Brexit and the Tories too.

For some reason a certain Jussie Smollet came into my head as I read about it ...

There are times when it is advisable to keep your mouth shut and walk away, booze and being mouthy, will always get you into trouble!..........Mr Jones had reportedly been out until the early hours, celebrating his birthday, presumably drinking? And has a reputation for being outspoken!.....His unsubstantiated claims that it was right wing thugs wot dun it, bear comparison to another political activist, who claims, without any evidence that every raptor allegedly missing is down to persecution by Grouse moor owners/keepers!.......

The left wing extremist view that "the end justifies the means" comes to mind!.......turn a negative into  a positive....blame those you see as the enemy!

He has a reputation for being outright obnoxious.  He has both been rude to other guests and walked out of TV interview shows if subjected to any line of questioning he doesn't like.  A bit of a spoiled child I think.

Thank you, it appears my point of view is getting out there. I'm not sure Pentonville Road is in JC's constituency, I don't think it extends that far south. His constituency is further north around Archway and Highbury. I think where I used to live on Junction Rd Tufnell Park was on the southernmost edge of his private fiefdom.

Mind you Pentonville Rd near the junction with the Caledonian Rd at 2am in the morning is not somewhere I would chose to be hanging around socialising. There are some seriously rough estates not far off there to the north and east and the inhabitants are the worst kind of low life imaginable.

If he 'only' got kicked in the head and a few scratches he was lucky, that's all I can say. If indeed he really did? I think its fiction, stabbed and robbed by a bunch of Somalis? that's more likely. Anybody who attacks you that time of night is likely to be robbing you unless you are 18 and wearing street clothes in which case its turf war.

But lets put this story to bed. The far right are not street people, they drink in private clubs and go home in Ubers. They never go out onto the streets (or at least those streets) at night because they are not that stupid and despise the street gangs. (and vice versa). The far right don't have, or want control of the streets

If he got attacked at 2am on Pentonville Rd there is no was it was a far right "gang". There is no such thing as a far right gang on the streets at 2am.

Here speaks a TRUE Londoner, who really does know what he is talking about

Probably fake news! He is constantly chasing press coverage. A useless wonk.

Could have been far-right, homophobic, unprovoked or just because he's unpleasant. Either way he still uses it as an opportunity to further his own agenda.

If it really happened!

Is this just news because of who he is ? Must admit I had to read the article to find out who he was.

Correct!

He may have been obnoxious to the wrong individual/crowd or maybe it was just a bit of old fashioned gay bashing? Not everyone is "right on" PC are they? Who knows? But without any evidence to substantiate his claim that it was far right extremists targeting him and singling him out because of his political views, is possibly overestimating his own importance and pushing what is and what is not credible, a tad too far!

When I saw this I immediately remembered that violence like this against anyone is just plain wrong. And I've written it out so I keep remembering it.

Having said that, I do hope that Owen Jones learns that some people are always aware of the risk of physical violence, and that being overpowered, outweighted and outclassed in strength is a horrible, terrifying experience. And then perhaps he might develop a bit of sympathy for the women who don't want men in their changing rooms and toilets instead of claiming we are all transphobic because his bestie is a transwoman (and of course what a mate of Owen wants he should get).

Owen Jones is one of the reasons I no longer subscribe to the Guardian. A typical North London leftie, thinks he knows everything and how everyone else should behave. Can't see past the end of his nose, hates anyone not like him (especially women).

If I wasn't such a bleeding heart oversensitive liberal social worker type I'd being tweeting him to ask how he likes them apples. But I won't. Or at least I haven't yet.

Most of the street people around that area are somali/ Iraqi/ Iranian/ Afgan/ Bagladeshi/ Pakistani and very young,  as such they would be very homophobic, if he is openly gay its not the sort of place to be hanging out at 2am.. Unless you have a death wish

But as I have pointed out in a previous post the far right would not be out either, they would be three sheets to the wind in some club or already tucked up in bed. They don't do "street"

Owen Jones certainly is an unlikeable character with his own agenda.

Perhaps he will learn from this terrible incident and temper his outgoing, rub it in your face, I am right you are all wrong approach to making headlines.

If he were to take a step back and keep out of the limelight for a while, he might not get beaten up.

I’d have been impressed if the tweet read something like, “was leaving my birthday drink and was accosted by some thugs who I swiftly dealt with by giving them a kicking and sending them on their way”. But, no, this type of gobby clown probably rolled on the floor screaming, unable to look after himself. Pretty much like the rest of his privileged peers. All mouth and trousers.

Attacked from behind, pretty much a cowardly (and it seems premeditated) attack.
