UK made PPE not being taken by NHS

You couldn't make this up - I'd imagine possibly due to some stupid policy about not being made by a preferred NHS supplier who likely pay huge backhanders to become one.

Investigations need to be made then a few heads must roll in high places if corruption is found.

Or maybe the firms want ransom money for them, either way it needs sorting out PDQ.

My wife has just informed me that on the news it said that the reason the order from Turkey has been delayed is actually because it wasn't put in until Sunday. I can neither confirm nor deny this - but if it is the case, along with the above, somebody needs a good kicking 😞

Its much more complicated than most people on here could ever imagine. To become a supplier for the NHS, MOD etc you have to become accredited and go through a lengthy process by which both you and your products are rigourously screened. Then you get a supplier number.

You can't just phone up and say you have a container load of PPE are you interested?  ten grand for cash?

It doesn't work like that unfortunately. They would have no way of knowing if it was fit for purpose, whether it was knock off or if it even existed .

They are being bombarded I would imagine by all sorts of Arthur Daly types trying to make a quick sale at the moment

What should and must change after this however is that we should pass a law saying that all vital supplies should be manufactured in the UK so we don't fall foul of this international supply chain where orders get blocked or diverted to a higher bidder

100% - China and others can carry on making cheap disposable consumables etc. but the items required to support vital supplies and key infrastructure need to be brought home or secured with reliable partners.

A play on words by the hysterical media.

The order was put in weeks ago ,  the hold up is due to the Turkish governments red tape , with the UK government asking the TK government to intervene on Sunday.

Quite why we cant produce some fairly simple PPE garments in factories in this country, absolutely baffles me !
I thought this was a national emergency ?

Seen a few things on the news showing stuff getting made, but I guess it comes down to numbers available,  I imagine everyone is screaming out for the stuff.

We might not be surprised if the Turkish supplier 'accidentally' dispatched the shipment to a higher bid buyer - or diplomatic chicanery.

France tried in interrupt one shipment to us - and we apparently now block parallel exports but can't not supply EU could be reasons.

Because we have lost the ability.  Take the fruit picking situation, there are already complaints because they have not been chosen but it is a specialist job. This fruit requires picking and packing to order and it is no good whinging and whining because you are not capable.  If a youngster these days can't do it on an I Pad they are lost. There are one or two seriously good parents on here who involve their kids and teach them how to do things.  To set up a production facility to produce medics clothing is not an over night thing.  Almost all of this high special quality artsy phartsy clothing we see  for sale is produced overseas in the far eat and very little now produced here in the UK.  My wife and I have alwys said should there be a nother World conflict then this country is lost. In the main the UK has become dependant.   What a shame when we produced and invented almost everyhting you can think of.

Read about a young woman in the Telegraph who had been rejected from fruit picking. Her main gripe was that she had to conform to the farmers rules. NUFF SAID??

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11442480/brits-fruit-picking-jobs-rejected-cheaper-foreigners/

The Alliance of Ethical Labour Providers said it had received 36,000 applications of interest but only 6,000 had opted for an interview for a role.

Concordia, one of the three recruitment companies in the alliance, said: “To date 900 people have explicitly rejected the roles we have offered and 112 have taken up our offer of a role on a UK farm.”

It said the main barriers were the length of the contract, location of the farm, and inability to work full-time because of care responsibilities.

Another recruitment firm in the alliance, Hops, said only 9% of those who had completed the recruitment process were eligible for the job.

Im sure some Brits believe the work might be too hard for them, but to say the Romanians  being shipped in are 'skilled' , is a massive assumption.

The figures above suggest to me , Brits arent being picked for the jobs for other reasons , some of them cited in the link from the Sun.

Either way, why import workers from other countries, into our supposed locked down state, and send them , unquarantined into fields and towns, when there are literally millions of home grown unemployed workers ?

Tell me its not because the Romanians work cheaper.

Not only 'youth'  and I don't have a 'downer'. From what is reported today, the applicants imediatley backed off because they had to conform to rules.

112 out of 36 000 applications says it all in my book.
