Oldgun
Has anyone out there had the problem with mares tail, tried Roundup and other weed killers but to no avail.I think it's coming under my fence from a small substation next door which is only sprayed once a year. The problem seems to be getting worse,it;s shooting up under shrubs and plants and even coming up in the greenhouse,it's driving me balmy. Any suggestions would help, and i am sure that PW readers and contributors being an intelligent group of people will come up with a concrete?!! solution. TIGHTCHOKE
Dig it out, get every bit out or it will just keep going! Good luck.

MirokuMK70
I have it my new garden. Where i can get at it i dig it out as deep as i can get. Where i can't dig, i dont let it see daylight by pulling the stalks off at ground level. Hopefully this will eventually weaken and kill it, but I'm expecting that to take several years. This stuff survived the dinosaurs... weedkiller makes it laugh.
7daysinaweek
I will send Blaster Bates over just as soon as he has finished on my patch. 🤣 A friend has it growing (AGAIN) in his flagged driveway and I have sprayed it with Rosate 360 (kills most things) every year for him several years and it always comes back. It must be rife under the flags. Good luck!

Konnie
Have had results in a paddock using depitox it's a broad leaf herbicide. It must contain a particular element it doesn't like. Dont take this as gospel it's just checked and diminished patches in the paddock.

We get bits of it along the edge of the drive and some in the garden, it gets pulled or mowed but thankfully doesn't seem to spread.
CharlieT
Digging it up will not work as its deep rooted and you won't get every root and it will regrow from the smallest but of root left and make the matter worse. I spray with Diamond which kills it in around 7-10 days. Glyphosate won't work.
telbert
My allotment was covered in this when i first got it years ago. Another plot holder told me the only way to get shot was to dig it out as far as you can then burn the roots. A lot of hard work but it done the trick. Ricko
It drove me off my allotment (along with bumptious committee members). Try Kurtail, its expensive but does work.

Robertt
My dads patio had it and it took a while to get shut of it. Tread on it then use a strong mix of Roundup. Do the same 2 weeks later. You have to damage the waxy outside layer to enable the R.U to penetrate. The following season only a bit came up and the same treatment nobbled it. Blackpowder
Try mixing some washing up liquid with the round up Blackpowder

cuffy
I just keep useing rosate 360 whenever I see it pokeing out of the gravel . But I accidentally spilt some compost accelerator over about 40 square yards last year . Seems to quite clear so far !
Stimo22
I had it bad on my allotment and an old boy said just keep digging it and put vinegar around where it grows. This worked for me, seems vinegar alters the ph of the soil and mares tail does not like it
GingerCat
Snip some of the top off and spray, I think the weed killer has easier access to the plant then. Worked for me. Used to have a lot of the stuff but only the odd one or 2 now.

tiny tim
Glyphosate won’t kill it. We use a product called grazon pro. It’s a lawn herbicide a couple of doses will kill it. But it’s expensive
