ordnance
I would not be surprised if Boris caved in to the EU, and diverted UK vaccines to the EU.
Good shot?
And the EU would make it appear that we were caving in to their demands and thus be proved to be in the right and with no thank yous.

I suppose that, as we are 'jabbing' the over 65s, we may as well give all our (no good) vaccine to Germany.........yeah right. Funny how this has only just come to light, when they don't have any. Tell 'em to do one Boris.

TRINITY
I may be miles out here, but the more I think about this EU spat with AZ and also threatening to ban the export of other vaccine, is nothing to do with their shortfall or roll out delay. I think its politically motivated by the fact they cant stand to see an independent UK out performing them. They are being highly embarrassed by this and they see it as a way to pull our progress back. Could be wrong but some of it doesn't stack up. Why all the fuss about something not approved or purported to be useless for over 65's
Rob85
So now it seems the EU is instigating an export ban on vaccines made in the EU until their orders are met, so essentially the only vaccines we will get are ones made in the UK, so their thinking is "we are getting slow deliveries so we will make everyone else have slow deliveries until we get what we want" or as some in the press have put it, they are not saying Europe First....more a case of it is not allowed to be Europe Second I hope outside countries with trade deals with them can now see this disgusting overarching communist style regime for what it is and threaten to roll back trade agreements due to lack of trust. They shafted themselves through shoddy contracts and now they will try to make other suffer for it. I hope the EU collapses in on itself, I love the European people but I really wish more would see the light. Chris B123
If the EU banned exports of the vaccine to the UK, couldn't we just ban the exports from the AZ plants in the UK.

AVB
I see that the contract has been published. I don't see that the EU have a leg to stand on as it states "best reasonable efforts". So that means that AZ don't need to do anything that is commercially unviable in order to fulfil the contract.

Yes but they are trying to spin it differently, for obvious political reasons. Edited January 29, 2021 by ordnance

They laid their bets in time but on the wrong horses. I have been informed that they bowed to the pressure of France to put the majority of their wager on the Sanofi vaccine and unfortunately this particular 'horse' is still running and may even be pulled up before the finish line. It also shows another issue with the EU that certain countries have too much power and think the failed organisation is for their total control and benefit. Regarding France a question, What is happening with their vaccine GSK Sanifi. it was supposed to be ready November 2020 . what happened to that. ? Then it would have been all out war. Our deal with them means we still have to contribute - albeit on a reducing scale and let them have a share of our fish. We have a small hold over them. No deal would have meant they had little to lose. The way to help cure their ire is to only buy British goods going forward. Something I have done for months, no hardship to avoid buying their stuff.
