When people talk about reparations, just who gets the money? My ancestors were enslaved by the Normans, Romans, Vikings and more. Is my cheque in the post?

And the Moors regularly raided south west coastal villages and towns in one case capturing a whole village and shipping them off into slavery .

It has been forever thus with the human race all over the planet ,sad but true.

In the Southern States of America more of the "slaves" were Irish and Scots than African. Entrapped by poverty and with no ability to negotiate they were forced to work for bed and board. Known as the rednecks they were treated as being of no value.

The one advantage the African slaves had over the rednecks was they had a value. Not much compensation I must admit but at that time some of my ancestors were farm workers in Oxfordshire and their quality of life was no better. plus upset the landowner or object to him ******** your daughter and you could be out

Well according to Nicholas Witchell it makes it a ‘misunderstanding’, as the pre wedding meeting with the big fellas rep’, was a reading of the vows and nothing more. So Meghan either has an atrocious memory, is none too bright, or a liar. She also got it totally wrong about her claims why her kid isn’t a prince. 🤷‍♂️

Actresses have good memories (they have to top learn the lines)

She certainly 'scheming' and has managed to achieve a lot of her own way - which indicates plenty of (a sort of) brightness

I cannot of course comment on her honesty, but having ruled out the other two and looking at the evidence ......

Quite. Another thing which baffles me about the entire affair, is why I care enough to comment about it on here!
Now I think about it, it’s probably the hypocrisy, the greed and the deceit which narks me into caring enough to comment. 🤷‍♂️

The real damage is to the brand of the UK in the eyes of the US.  Question is, is that damage that matters to any decision maker?

Does it really affect anything of any value to UK PLC, or is it just media-types in the Republic of California and the more upmarket addresses in New York that care?

I bet if our resident US correspondent went into his workplace tomorrow, and mentioned Meghan Sparkle, "Who?" would be the most common response.

Meghans lies/half-truths/lies by omission may well be corrected* but a lie gets halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on.

*Eventually.  How come it took that useless frock-wearer-in-chief till now to check his diary and refute the married-in-secret allegation?

I totally agree with Scully. In fact, I'd go as far to say that, " I feel more racist now, than ever before." Not only through this thread, but all the BAME, BLM, taking the knee carp.

As an aside, I have a white friend married to a black girl, who have just had their first kid. Guess what one of the first questions was asked by BOTH families..........

That applies to me as well - and it is not something I like because I would wish to continue to be non racist and inclusive, but I cannot help my dislike for some of the present divisions the minorities are deliberately opening up on what I see as 'made up' racial lines.

The UK overall is NOT a racist country - of that I am convinced - as indeed was the recent government enquiry led by a very diverse group of high profile individuals.  You only have to look at the diversity in cabinet, government, parliament etc. to see that.  There are of course racist individuals - just as there are for example anti Semitic individuals, but again we are not an anti Semitic country.

What 'rubs me up the wrong way' is that having got the present 'woke' attitudes to a high level of popularity, many of our long standing traditions, and memorials are being 'attacked', in some cases physically attacked.  By this I mean pulling down statues, renaming colleges, streets, buildings where they are named after some long dead person who was associated with practices (such as slavery) that are no longer acceptable, but were the norm in their day.  I also mean the 'positive discrimination' where jobs are advertised to certain sections of the community only rather than to the best applicant regardless of background, the differing legal and police treatment of minorities (e.g - what is known as 'playing the race card').

People of all backgrounds are welcome to join in and take part in society and government - but (for me anyway) to continue to run and evolve it along well developed lines based in history and tradition - not tear apart our society and traditions and try to replace it with something completely different (and it appears of a very 'lefty Marxist' flavour.
