Feed bag and lead to an enclosed area, use the cop car to close in and prevent escape. Even lead in a residential garden and close the gate.  Certainly not able to  think outside the box.

I would have certainly given the driver of the truck a mouthful. Absolutely despicable behaviour.

Total thicko.

Sounds easy doesn't it ? Like I said earlier,,,, it'll all be resolved in the enquiry 😉

Oh yes, lessons will be learned, or not as the case may be. The police will not listen to the people who pay them, even when there suggestion is a good one.

I wonder what would had happened if the police had all got in there cars and tried to run the Horses down that ran amok in London a few months ago  ?.:hmm:

We once had a whole herd got out of a field when the wall they were leaning against fell over , they enjoyed going in the tenants garden and devouring the plants and leaving there marks on the grass , although the estate got a hefty bill I can honestly say that not one Cow or calf was hurt , apart from the farmers pride :good:

Ive spent enough time round cattle to know the action by the police at this time were totally wrong.

If a little bit of common sense had been used they would not be facing an enquiry.  If i remember a while back didnt a police force shoot a beast taking umpteen shots to kill it ???

I was agreeing with you by being ironic,,,, "sounds easy doesn't it" 😉 I've also spent some time around livestock/cattle, albeit not a lot, and wouldn't have been scared or put off as a pedestrian in these circumstances. And common sense should have been used, but that's in short supply everywhere it seems 🤔

👍

Common sense isnt in the rule books through, i've never seen a method statement or risk assessment suggesting the use of common sense.

The calf was up and walking around after a few minutes so it wasn't an especially hard take down.

Just because it seems to be OK by walking off and according to the vets examination it was reported to have a deep cut, i would not rule out any broken ribs, of further issues.

FWIW. I didn't see any aggression from it, just curiosity?

If a member of the public had done that there would have been enough cruelty charges to fill a toilet roll. Let's see how the RSPCA respond to that?

I agree   i didnt get what he was going to do ounce he had traped it under the car if he was a firearm responce unit and was goung to put its lights out but just to trap it under the car he just stressed the animal out even more  and to be honest it didnt look to be that aggressive

If it’s just off its mum it could have done all sorts ! Did not look overly injured in my book seen them take a bigger battering from other young cows or other mothers in the fields .

i am reasonably sure the 1 year on the job training did not cover this in police school ! In hindsight a daft decision but can’t really understand what they should have done - I think I read somewhere it had been roaming about and damaging stuff for 3 days - I think we should have sent Chris pacham to talk to it nicely and ask it to trot off home

I was out shooting rabbits near Writtle [Chelmsford area] early one morning, quite a few years ago. It was still dark and a bit misty. I rounded a tree line bordering my chosen field and a narrow lane, took about 50 paces out into the field and came almost face to face with a rather large longhorn, gender unknown 😆 I didn't stop walking, but took quite a tight curve to return to where I had come from. Texted the farmer and within 10 minutes two police cars turned up and the three policemen guided said beast along the lane, back to its farm about half a mile away. No dramas, in fact lots of giggles 😂😄 This thing was easily 3/4's of a ton, so could have caused havoc, but was as calm as you like and never threatening. Apparently it had been scratching an itch against a fence post and a gap appeared, so off it toddled 🙂 I suppose those policemen were used to that sort of thing, and dealt with it extremely well 👏

In this instance, with it being a calf, if someone had the actual gonads to guide it into a garden or similar, things would have gone much better.
