its early days and the tide is turning

Very early days :whistling: and due to utterly incompetent actions of labour, the tide is definitely turning against them.
They are in a downward spiral, with Starmer doing his best fish out of water impression, and for myself, Im finding it rather entertaining :good:

EU and UK leaders have been out of touch with public opinion for a long time, which is why we voted to leave.
You could also say UK leaders have been out of touch  with public opinion for years, which is why we now have a Labour government.
Also, US leaders have also been out of touch with public opinion for years, which is why Trump was re-elected.
Perhaps therapy would benefit those afflicted by remoanerism?

The single market was always an illusion.

Most of the countries in the EU were /are effectively bankrupt and haven't got any money to buy anything off us even if they had wanted to.  And most didn't want to anyway because we don't produce anything they need

Lets end the millions of migrants coming from the third world to the UK as a result of Brexit. It's time for a reset.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/dec/12/majority-of-brexit-voters-would-accept-free-movement-to-access-single-market-uk-eu

Perhaps the most striking finding was that 54% of Britons who voted leave, including 59% of voters in “red wall seats”, said in exchange for single market access they would now accept full free movement for EU and UK citizens to travel, live and work across borders.

It is impossible to have a reset on something that never happened.

Rather than vote for Brexit, Trump or labour it's more a vote against the EU, Biden and the Tories. A vote against the status quo.

Well talking to many who voted to leave the EU, the over-riding reason was because they weren’t being listened to by the ruling establishment regarding many issues, ie out of touch with public opinion.
I get the impression the reason Trump was voted back in is for the same reason.
The reason Labour were voted in was for the same reason, but ironically the status quo has been retained.

Same old deceitful hypocrites,  different name. 🤷‍♂️

I’m so over Brexit but can’t help but feel it basically left pretty much nobody happy with the outcome.

Also, to state the obvious, if we left then surely the people against it and wanting it reversed are returners not remoaners.

Conversely if we haven’t really left then the remainers are not remoaners and should be happy.

The real moaners seem to me to be the disgruntled leavers.

What a mess 😆

Voting for something which was delivered in name only & deliberately undermined at every turn, even by those nominally striving to deliver it, entitles one to moan.

I say let Starmer try and take us back in.

I wonder if these returners are comfortable with compulsory joining of the eurozone, Schengen*, no veto and certainly no rebate.

I’m not expecting an answer of course.

*such as it is; tried crossing a land border in the Schengen zone recently?

Why would we want to join an EU that is sinking so fast, it is likely to fall apart as Germany, France etc no longer have the funds to pump into the other countries.

If we were still part of the EU we would also be on the hook for bailing nearly everyone else out.

Whilst Brexit is not yet complete, 2029 wil change that.

In the meantime if Stammer & Co try to take us back in, they had better watch out, the British public, the majority of whom are fed up already with Labour, will revolt.

Brexit resulted in a replacement of immigrants who look like us and have values like ours, with those that, errr……don’t.

This ^^^^^^ people moaning about dinghy arrivals need to look first at the choices they made.

Won't happen. Depending on the Trump actions, we will start with the EU defence alliance and go from there.

Hang on a minute, despite @scolopax liking for only white migrants, dinghy arrivals are illegal entries, you are a proponent of LEGAL means of entry to the UK, be they refugees, or those INVITED over on the work visa system ?
So lets not conflate the two.
Why doesnt labour, live up to its moniker, and put some effort into getting the millions of unemployed British back to work, who already have somewhere to live,  rather than importing low wage migrants who need housing, services and benefits ?
Its simply compounding the problems that we already have !

We dont need an EU defence alliance, we have NATO, if the US leaves NATO (I would if I were the States) it doesnt mean NATO ceases to exist without its financial benefactor, or does it ?
Therein lies the issue the US has.

The EU doesnt need an integrated army under its command, it has far too much power as it is (for a trading bloc :whistling:)

Voting for a concept which was not well defined nor the mechanics of which were figured out in advance, no wonder there is a spectrum of disillusionment on both sides.

I don’t want us to return, the point was we already had a pretty good deal, yet some were not satisfied and focussed on unicorn outcomes (like improved immigration) which were never going to materialise.

I personally suspect that if and when the EU fails there will be little delta in the impact it causes us in the UK between us staying or leaving. I may be wrong but this was one of my arguments and lines of reasoning in the first place.

Mm, I'm quite happy with the choice I made but underestimated the cretinous politicians we have. My bad.

My underestimate will never happen again.
