We had the weird food topic and most of which i found hard to stomach ! :) How about the best food you have had, it could be a luxury 5 course meal in a top restaurant in Paris or a much needed snack that filled a gap, or anything in between

I have a few examples in no order

After an all night Bass fishing session near Criccieth N Wales I remember waiting for the chippy to open and getting a chicken portion which added to the warm bread and butter from the local baker made an unforgettable feast

Smoking Mackerel minutes after catching them and washing them down with some nice Chardonnay

An early morning Pizza covered in Anchovies from a mobile van in S France

it is actually a very long list anyone else ?

The one I do remember years back, sat on the veranda of a very nice taverna in kefalonia, with my wife to be, eating the best calamari I can remember, looking over the harbour, breezy, boats coming in.

Hot, crispy squid, with lemons and olives, g and t.

Now married, too many children and a manic life!

I have actually been in one of those TV chef jobs on the BBC (wild harvest, Islay edidtion if you can catch a re run) food served there was as expected sea food lobby cray etc, not that clever really, but for shear taste and freshness washed down with a few bottles, you cant beat this all sorted and eaten within 30 mins of striking the surface.(pics are off skye)

Sitting on the veranda of a little French restaurant in Bordeaux with my wife and two young sons, the pate was sublime as was the duck with plum sauce, there was lots of rose and red wine consumed recommended by the waitress, and the French family on the table opposite were so friendly, we ended up trying each others food and sharing some wine,a great afternoon eating good food in the sun with good company.

getting hungry here ! little French restaurants do it for me I remember an omelete in a bar in St Valerie very thick and very light what flavour , KW I was the boatman for a local Scallop diver and scallops are one of the best things. I used to have for breakfast, Scallop wrapped in smoked bacon served with one of our duck eggs, incidently he (the diver) always used to break open spiney sea urchin on the gunwale and drink/eat the contents, have you tried it ?

A steak from a spring run Atlantic Salmon fresh off the tide, caught a couple of hours previously cooked in in the microwave in milk with a knob of butter, Jersey Royals and fresh steamed asparagus......food for the gods! The Salmon just melted in the mouth!

Since the introduction of a ban on the taking of Spring Salmon, unfortunately this is a thing off the past!

Spooky. Two of my best ever meals would be mackerel caught on the beach in Criccieth in the rain at night, taken straight home, fileted and flash fried within the hour; and pizza "moitié-moitié" - with anchovy, black olives and no cheese on one half, just cheese and tomato sauce on the other - in marseille.

Others would be a that-day fresh mozzarella in Naples, no 1 native oysters at Wiltons, steak at Peter Luger in Brooklyn, huge swordfish steaks for lunch landed that morning at the harbour in Marseille.

I think I could go on forever. So I'll stop except for, in my long past drinking days, Yquem 88, Palmer 70 and Batham's bitter circa 1986.

And fresh cockles from the Gower with salt and malt vinegar.

Simple unfussy produce that is cooked very well always works for me. Even better if cooked and consumed outside.

I am one of those terrible people who just doesn't like seafood and it is a source of massive frustration, so in reading some of the comments above of fresh caught fish and cooked almost immediately I am very envious.

The most memorable dish I've had was rabbit and tarragon pudding that I had at my wedding. I'd shot the rabbits and dropped them off to the chef the day before. I didn't know what he was going to do with them but it was really good. My wife won't eat rabbit so she had something different, that obviously wasn't memorable as I've no recollection of what it was.

Also, the same chef did rabbit kebabs which were excellent and I have done at home loads of times. Cubes of rabbit marinated in a thick, sweet soy sauce (can't remember what it's called, I think it's Malaysian as he is), garlic and lime juice then barbecued.
