feel for George and his missus,,

what is bothering me though is , I,ve just seen it on the local news and it said they have taken two guns,,

wonder how they got into his gun cabinets ??? also if the guns where left lying around I wonder if he will get a slapped wrist ???

makes you shudder to think someone could burst through a glass door 4yrds from where your eating your supper,,

if they do find them then sorry but I think they should be publicly hung

in saying that they will probably get 50hrs community service,,,,

very sad news indeed but glad they both survived ,, that's one hell of a split across his forehead,,

I don't think he will get into bother over the guns going,

Anyone that breaks into my house, then batters me so I need stitches, then asks for the cabinet keys can have them, it's not worth it.

I would imagine George has a fair few guns, remember, his wife shoots as well and I would think he has firearms as well so he may have more than one cabinet,

If he opened the smaller cabinet then they think that's all he has, they then go away happy.

If I recall, it's not burglary of you are in the house when it happened, it's robbery which carries a stiffer sentence, plus the GBH/theft of guns then I would imagine it won't be a slap on the wrist.

Of course the anti gun brigade will be saying it wouldn't happen if all guns had to be kept at clubs and the like, they forget about farmers and so forth.

Horrible experience to go through :(

If you have got 3 >> 4 blokes inside of your house and they are beating yourself and your wife and children with hammers and iron bar you will very soon find the keys and let them have what they want. They won't take, I won't give you the keys or I haven't got them here as an answer. They will keep beating you until you do hand them over or someone gets killed or seriously injured. The blokes that home invaded the house out near Tenterden are very determined and dangerous people.

I'm under no illusions as to how it works pal, I was referring to the practicalities of having a "home defence" view towards firearms. Never going to happen.

In his situation I think anyone would hand them over.

Not quite. Break in and steal and while your there beat someone up its a burglary and an assault or possibly an aggravated burglary. Break in and use violence from the outset like they did in order to commit the theft then it's a robbery.

If your in bed when someone breaks in and you don't see them that's just a burglary.

I know that if they are beating your partner then you'll hand over the keys but if you are alone and refuse to give them the guns, then I struggle to believe they would kill you and risk a murder charge over a couple of guns. Not that it's worth risking it though. If you heard noises downstairs and managed to get your gun and then was confronted by them I wonder what people on here would do? It's a horrible situation to be in.

Here is the rub. Shot gun and Firearm certificate holders are not supposed to tell anyone including spouses where the cabinet keys are. If criminals break in when the certificate holder is not there and try to get the information from the wife, what then if she genuinely doesn't know where the keys are?

Good point. Maybe they scout the place to make sure the holders there or just presume that at night they will be.

If they are as dangerous as the blokes that home invaded the bloke that I know in Tenterden then they will carry on beating you with hammer or jemmy until either you do tell or you are knocked unconscious. that is after they decide to stub a fag out on you or cut some of your ear off. these people are dangerous and dont care. they might even get a buzz out of it. These sort of people need to be caught and taken out of society for a long time SOON.

Fingers xd they are caught but I doubt it. Regards getting guns they have hit him hard over the head, that cut where it is would have looked horrendous with blood everywhere, looking much worse than it is. He like myself would have given them whatever keys they wanted. They are not afraid to use violence so you don't know what their next move is. They could kill you. Give them the guns and let the police deal with it l. He's alive and so is the wife so he's made the right move.

violence unexpected is bad enough but when it's in your own home it's worse. He certainly did the right thing in handing over his keys.

The attackers were without doubt full of adrenaline and probably other stuff too, it takes a special kind of sociopath to do what they did with a normal heart rate.

Having had the misfortune to meet people who value money over life I'd venture these were low level vermin, what they stole will get them a few hundred pounds, no notoriety ( which they will crave ) and a knock on the door at silly o clock one morning.

As 12 gauge said, you may be as tough as a scaffolders wife on a fri night but it counts for nothing in situations such as this. Not keen on the guy but I wish him well and will avoid the local clay grounds for a few months while he recoups his losses.

honestly, if I thought my family were in any danger and the nearest thing I could get to was a gun and the Burglar was to still make any advances toward me or my family he would be made immobile .

Do you keep your gun loaded in the cabinet ? do you think they would give you time to load it be it o/u of semi ? it doesn't happen in slow motion. Give them what they want they leave. Attempt to load a gun whilst a hammer is held above your child's head ? no brainer. Not a dig by the way, I would have said the same. Sadly I know how their minds work - victims are collateral damage. They know what they want and how they will get it. I have my three year old daughter four nights a week. When she is here should someone enter and threaten her ill give them what they want. I have no doubt the police would agree. When she's not here I'd weigh up not seeing her again against the cost of a couple of new guns.

We digress, this is about a terrible attack on George and his wife.
