David.Evans
I f you were thinking of spending thousand + , not a lot I know for shot guns , in some cases Would you go second hand / new 12g , o/u is what I'm looking at There's that many , and having not been into shotguns long , it a bit off a mine field , when trying to make a choice , or the right one ! Uncle Les
get a gun that fits, in your budget and you can shoot with; seen plenty of folk with expensive guns hit nothing and the guy with the £50 Baikal drops the burdz. If your relatively knew to sg`s I might opt for an all rounder such as a 3" proofed multichoke sporter. Could get a decent second hand lanber/bettinsoli for £450 and save yourself a grand till you get used to the shotty and different shooting situations eg standing at a peg or walked up or flighting duck. Just my opinion but the £1000 + gun of choice for **** shots with money seems to be the berretta silver pigeon so Id avoid! Good gun but as I say seems to be the fashion accessory of choice at the minute

steveshoots
Have you thought about a 3 shot semi Auto ? .For decoying pigeons a 3 shot Auto is the way to go and I will swear by a Browning Maxus . If you are just on the pigeons that would be my choice. I love mine no recoil 3.5 chamber so perfect fowling gun if you get into that. But if you are also thinking in the future you want to take up game shooting a Browning 525 sporter multi choke or as advised a Lanber 30" sporter are perfect as I own all 3 and they never let me down. Hope this helps ATVB Steve. Edited November 24, 2016 by steveshoots

HDAV
Lots of great guns for that money which looked after will probably outlast you.... All about the fit, and what you want to drop £1k+ on........ You would get a lovely miroku for that or an older browning (higher grade 325 etc) If durability is priority over looks go for chrome barrels in A later mk38 or 525 etc. Or avoid the main 3 and get something pretty hundreds too choose from! https://www.guntrader.uk/guns/shotguns/macnab-john/over-under/12-gauge/highlander-160224140104004 Edited November 24, 2016 by HDAV

fortune
There are hundreds to chose from in the price range. Firstly the gun has to fit you. It ain't much use shooting at stuff and missing everything because you aren't pointing where you are looking. Then other stuff comes into play such as what floats your boat about the wood and the engraving and the sellability of the gun should you want to have something different. You might even enjoy a side by side and because they are out of fashion at the moment means that there are some super bargains out there. There are so many variables that you just got to go and try and shoot stuff. If you get chatting to blokes around the grounds most people will let you have a go.but the fit is the most important thing. They all go bang. psycho
A brand new browning 525 or berretta silver pigeon it makes sense to get a new one for £1300 when a 10 year old one will set you back a grand...shotguns hold there value..and new is nice
fortune
Choices, choices. It's something that is individual to each. I have all sorts, o/u, SbS, pump, double and single trigger but it doesn't matter to me what It is. As far as I am concerned it is just a tube. It could be the AyA #2 SbS 28bore with double triggers or the Browning B325 12 bore o/u with a single trigger or any of my guns. As to chokes I don't really think about it. The AyA is fixed and the Browning has half and half in there all of the time. Edited November 24, 2016 by fortune

B25Modelman
Having seen that, I'd be awfully tempted to look no further. The action would have been black so it has been polished...IMHO

wymberley
The action would have been black so it has been polished...IMHO Personal preference, as shown and doesn't detract from the value of the gun. I would though just check out the rear trigger before buying.
daveboy
Because I was unsure about gun fit I went for a Browning 525 with Adjustable comb (about £1400) It has 30" Barrels and multichoke. I went for new in the end because people were asking not much less second hand.

Danger-Mouse
So many options with that budget, especially the upper end of it. The world is pretty much the mollusc of your choice. You could potentially pick up a high grade Miroku, maybe an MK38 or a very nice Browning. However I`m not sure if you'd want to take a grade 5 gun out for pigeon shooting, that's up to you of course. I would favour Miroku, Browning or a Winchester (you could easily find a Diamond Grade sporter within budget), probably in that order but again that's a personal choice. Wilts#Dave
Silver pigeon or browning b525 grade 1 models would be where I'd put my money if I had enough for a first gun.....pick up both and see which fits you the best. Both will last a lifetime potentially, hold good residual value secondhand and can be used for any type of shooting!

WinchesterDave
Have a look at new Winchester Select shotguns, I really do think they're over looked - Whatever you get, make sure it fits and you enjoy shooting it.
