Thieving ********

You'd think at my ripening age I'd learn. I was brought up to respect other peoples property. Trouble is I trust everybody until I find out differently.

well I've bloody found out again.

I bought a new high seat a couple of months ago, I put it up in a private wood 50 yds off a no through rd, trouble is the leaves are off and made it visible I suppose. Anyway some scrote has been in the wood had my high seat even had the heavy chain and lock that I had it secured.

So if any of you Somerset lads are offered a telescopic high seat cheap, pleased let me know because it's marked and I could tell it.

Sorry for my rant but stealing boils my blood.

It will be someone that you have a seen and probably spoken to that frequents the area. Firstly they have to have knowledge that you may have put it there and to have been mooching around in the wood to have found it. Secondly they will have had to have had the time to go back and get a set of bolt croppers or a hacksaw to cut the chain with. So they have had to get it away to somewhere. They either want it to use themselves or to flog it on. Does that ring any bells? I know a bloke who shoots rabbits locally and he had three hazel sticks tied together at the top with a bit of bailer twine to make a standing stick / gun rest. And he left it laying on the ground just inside the wood at the bottom of a fence line so that it was there when he wanted to use it. The sticks were only there a couple of days and they walked. A random item that wasn't noticeable left off off the public access with no value and hardly anyone would have any idea what they were. Gone!

It sickens me that this goes on! What makes people think " oh, he has something I don't so I'm having it anyway"

One of the things I worry about moving back to the UK next month is this and the need to be vigilant with your possessions.

At the local clay club today I noticed a couple of things -- 50 or more boxes of clays stored in the wide open but more importantly- all the Pro-matic trap systems and the traps are left permanently installed/out in the open and yet they have never had any theft?

Our bicycles have been left out in the drive for the last few weeks and sometimes the kids use the remote opener for the garage, leaving everything exposed for the night or day....

What's it coming too huh

Stealing is a way of life for some.

I'd have thought it's a bit niche to be sold on straight away.

If they know what it is and what it's for they'd realise they're not the sort of thing anyone just happens to be selling.

I'd bet it's been stolen for no other reason than it could be.

I'd probably bet on the type that's nicked it as well...

It never ceases to amaze me what people will have off with given the chance. Never mind cutting the chain off they also had to lump it 60 yards + back to their vehicle as well from the sounds of it. Not something you just rock up and pinch without preparation.

A couple of months ago I had a squirrel feeder up on one of my permissions, it had been there for over a year as a bait station and was pretty battered having had a new front and lid in that time. Went down to top it off in preparation for the colder weather so I could bag some more squirrels and someone had nicked it. Wasn't worth anything apart from to me.

New one is screwed to the tree and better hidden!

Where are these things that you mention? Back the motor up boys !!!

Very much doubt it's a shooter but you never know.

I would think that it could well be a shooter with a hilux ect. EG a local gamekeeper. Someone on the boundary with reason to go through the woods dogging birds back. or part of the caravan brigade out poaching the deer that you have the high seat there for. Dont discount anyone. Apart from me coz I live too far away.
