JohnfromUK
To be fair to Labour ........ they are the 'opposition', so it is natural for them to 'oppose'. They have had a lot of practice at it in recent years. So long in opposition has entirely focussed them on being 'negative'. Any policies they had themselves were soundly rejected by the electorate. As opposition, they are focussed on making sure nothing they ever do or say could be construed as support for the government. Starmer is a lawyer by training, so he will be practised in courtroom style performances ........ such as looking for 'chinks in evidence' to exploit to support 'his case'. When the crisis of WW2 was over, the grateful electorate threw Churchill out on his ear and Labour took power. I think Starmer is waiting for a repeat of that. Who knows, he may get it ........ Danger-Mouse
After numerous Labour councillors were sacked for wishing ill on Boris when he contracted the virus you'd think they'd be glad for some positive press, but oh no "A Labour councillor has been handed a formal warning after delivering thousands of pounds worth of food to vulnerable residents while working alongside Conservative rivals." https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/05/labour-councillor-warned-working-tories-deliver-food-banks-12657806/ It seems their hatred of the Conservatives exceeds rational behaviour. You need to remember Starmer is a QC and hence one of the very best in finding flaws in an argument or evidence and turning a perfectly valid argument against you. All the QC’s I know are polished performers well versed in articulating an argument calmly and intelligibly to gain a winning position. This will be a tough five years for Boris whatever he does. Totally disagree, This man in his past job defended the guilty and I would never give this type of leader my vote but will suit the labour party and fit in nicely with that bunch. Boris will have no problems. And you think a person that can turn a perfectly valid argument around and spin it against the person is good, not in my eyes. I'm with you on all that apart from the Packham bit, surely until the next GE it's Packham that we need to really watch? Personally, I am looking forward to seeing more of Starmer at the despatches box, he is going to have Boris and the rest of the Government on the run, could be brilliant TV. But for the mess that is the Labour Party it wouldn't even be a fair contest. It will also be interesting to see who the Tories will put forward to face off on him whenever it doesn't have to be Boris. Pretty sure Boris isn't looking forward to this one bit... I don't watch much TV, maybe Question Time is the highlight of my week, please don't burst my bubble on this 😛 Either way, I'll be listening to the verbal exchanges, the pomp and all that is secondary, and the fact that they both have "nutty roofs" tertiary 🙂
Gordon R
Quote Starmer is clearly incredibly intelligent, driven and dedicated. I imagine he will be the next Prime Minister, That will need a lot of imagination. Whatever Starmer's qualities - and he has them - he is in the same boat as Gordon Brown - he lacks personality and is boring. In this day and age, decent policies are insufficient to win elections. We are becoming more like the USA with presidential type elections. A media personae is essential - he doesn't have it.
