Lockdown 1.0 wasn’t good to me so for 2.0 I was determined to keep training outside with personal trainer. Today was first day back in gym so good to check timings.

1k run on treadmill - 5 minutes  I’m not a natural runner

1k row - 3 min 52 secs

20 calories on airbike/assault bike - 47 seconds. I hoped this would be quicker. Apparently 30 secs is an very good time.

body fat down to 18.7% which isn’t bad for an old **** but would like to get lower.
Weight hasn’t changed much (lost 2.45kg) but not too worried about that.

shoulders are limiting the amount of strength work I can do but I’m learning to work around them.

How have others been doing?

I tried doing 25 press-ups every morning when I got out of bed but the wife kept trying to slide in underneath me

Did you try to poke her out of the way? You'd be done in less than 25...

I am down almost a stone in weight, just eating better. Hope to keep it going.

Was doing really well during summer, but the early dark nights ( and bags of crisps ) are taking their toll.

I would do a forced walk of around a mile each night which included an extremely steep hill  which I didn’t slow down for to get fit for beating.
Anyhow, time spent with pup in what daylight was left after work has meant I’ve neglected it of late, but am off now til the new year and beating four days next week, so should get things moving again.

Got into a good routine cycling etc  during the spring that made me lose a few kilos.

Hadn't been doing much excercise since that start of the season in the traditional form, but specialist scales shown that muscle up and fat down in recent months ... only excercise has been a lot of long walks on the foreshore, creek jumping, carrying an 8 bore and geese, and fly fishing for pike .. oh well !!

HRM on wrist has shown a morning flight, or 4 hours fishing burns more calories than a 25 mile bike ride. Best keep at it I think !!

Me too - was cycling almost 100 miles a week during first lockdown, now the weather is cold and miserable struggling to do more than about 20 miles a week and eating in the dark evenings so gaining lard again 🙁

I weighed in at 21stone at my heaviest, got it down to 14 about 4 years ago and have kept it there ever since. Sensible eating during the week, and a minimum of 5k, normally 10, on the concept 2 rowing machine every day allows me to eat and drink too much at the weekends. In truth i should be at least a couple of more stone lighter, and could be if it wasn't for weekend binges........but everyone needs a little fun!!

I'm almost fit, just one letter out.

Not done anything for so long and feel carp for it but just keep saying "too busy". Easiest excuse there is.

To be honest it is often true but I should still make an effort.

Have a rower and think this thread might prompt me to get an exercise bike and make a start.

Get an air bike also called an assault bike. Absolutely brutal workout.

Pretty depressing.
Used to do a lot of tractor work and let myself go. Dunno how really but ended up well over 20 stone. Not exactly sure how much but pretty sure when I converted from KG the last time the dr's weighed me it worked out about 23.
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that that's pretty outrageous so decided to do something about it.
Went hell for leather for a year and a half and got my **** down to about 14.5 stone. This was a couple years ago. Felt bloody amazing. Started doing park runs and whatnot and couldn't believe that I was actually able to run and do sporty things again.
Then I kinda just lost all enthusiasm for everything. (I'm quite an all or nothing kinda person). Ended up over 19 stone again when lockdown happened back in March.
During lockdown started going on massive walks and got a Taurus crosstrainer (amazing bit of kit!). Smashed it and got down to 15 stone again and was buzzing.
Now back up to just over 18 stone again 🙄
I'm a bloody yoyo.

Trying to lose a stone before christmas again as am easily gonna put a stone on over this month lol.
Just wish I could stick at it. Target goal is 13 stone

Would really love to start doing some park runs again next year. Never felt as amazing when when I started doing those.

My weight does not vary much. Put on a stone in 18 years, weigh 88kg. I used to play football 6 times a week and cycle was my only form of transport so was fit as a butcher’s dog. 3 children later, 0 football, 0 cycling I realised that my fitness was awful so started running every morning.

I’m not going to lie, I hate it. 6am and completely black. It’s freezing cold in shorts and a tee shirt in the wind and rain. Then boiling hot once you’re halfway. The ground is waterlogged heavy clay so slipping everywhere and covered head to toe in mud. Feet soaked from the puddles. 6 months in and so far I’ve not missed a day and two pairs of running shoes (10+ years old each) have perished along the way.

I do eat far far too much. 3 huge meals a day, plus lots of snacks. Think controlling my diet is the next challenge as my legs are now like steel but there is a 1” layer of fat across my entire torso. I would need to run for 2 hours to offset the excess calories I consume.

I feel for you. I also yoyo and feel so good when fit and at a good weight. Then for different reasons I inevitably lapse and rapidly go downhill then depression sets in.

When I played rugby properly I was 16st  maybe a little either at but looking back I must have been fitter than I realised. Skip several years and try to play again and at 17st plus I started rowing (realised running and rugby were out due to knackered knees).

9 weeks, one and a half stone and never felt better. Had always hated the gym but found rowing and became competitive. At least 2 half marathons each week plus other shorter bits and all in good times. All within a couple of months.

Broken hand meant no rowing and loss of enthusiasm and never regained it.

Tried a bit but need somethjng to inspire.

Going to use this thread as a kick start and might start an update thing.

Anyone else interested j that as motivation?

It takes a fairly decent chunks of exercise to burn off say 300 kcals.

You can eat that in just a few mouthfuls, down in seconds. Unless people get their diet and life styles in check it’s very difficult to keep the weight off.

Is about 20-30 mins of flat out moderate to intense cardio I find.
I normally do 40 mins on the cross trainer on one of those interval settings and that's usually about 450 / 500 cals.

managed to do 900 in an hour once but that was pure flat out and never managed it again lol

I was going to the gym 3-5 days a week, however once a week it was just a quick swim and sauna/hot tub and the reason was to keep myself supple and fit for kayaking. However we binned the gym subscription and went walking which was interesting, both of us would come back from a 4 mile stroll and we would be pretty much knackered for the rest of the day but a couple of weeks later we were doing 3-5 miles daily and just getting on with work around the house. So physically it was a winner as I found I wasn't as tired after a full day at sea and all the cleaning, storing of gear after etc Mentally things have changed, the gym was soulless as such but we used to spend a lot of time with our friends before and after, walking was great as we have seen so many wonderful things, more otters than I have seen in my life in just a few months, kingfisher doing amazing stunts, deer and squirrel galore, but less of our friends. However we have, and continue, to see people who we haven't seen in ages and talking to strangers who after a while become acquaintances so mentally it has been pretty good, especially after lockdown and we could meet up with friends for socially distant walks. We also found that we are getting hungry earlier, but we keep the same meal times, and are losing weight slowly and seem to have better muscle definition and stamina.

We have not been back to the gym and don't intend to until Covid calms down, but walking is now a thing we look forward to, even if it is chucking down like today.

We are both pretty active generally but I knocked the gym and yoga classes on the head with Covid. I am a member of Clevedon Gig Rowing but that has been cancelled too for now.

My wife bought a turbo trainer (thx @Raja Clavata) and I bought a rower. We turned a spare room into a gym and that has filled some of the void. I miss the yoga and sometimes find motivation to get on the rower an obstacle, but generally it's fine. I find it easier if I put the rower out onto the rear patio if I want to do an extended session but the blue tooth music connection can be a bit dodgy.
