10 years if lying about where you travel from - draconian?

Hope that's enough to stop the odd lying scum coming into the country by first flying to a 'safe list' country to avoid ten days stay in a hotel at their own cost on arrival.

I'm thinking five years would have the same deterrence effect - but its about time we got tough - and some of those liars could be part of a terror group.

Hopefully that applies to illegal channel arrivals too but that might be difficult to prove if they've dumped their papers as they enter UK waters.

There was a South African woman on Sky News yesterday saying she flew to London via Oman and nobody even questioned her about it when she got here. You would have thought a load of South Africans getting off a plane from Oman should have got somebody wondering?

Plus they should quarantine all the rest of the people on the flight too, and charge the airline.

Having it on the statute books does no harm at all, too many wee takers prepared to take a chance otherwise to try and save £1,750

It’s just shows how muddled this government is in its thinking and planning around this virus.

Flatten the curve - tick

Protect the NHS - tick

Oh what fear stories can we come up with next  to justify the lockdown -  Variants that’s the one!

We should have the same people on the borders at airports and ferry crossing as they have on that Australia board patrol no messing if something is wrong they send them back I don’t think our boarder security is strong enough probably scared of losing there jobs if they done it right.

And let’s hope all them that are coming on small boats are returned straight away

Yep ,we need to get MUCH tougher on lots of things in this country if we wish to maintain our way of life!!!

Almost a contradiction in itself if you are talking about covid restrictions.

10 years is ridiculous when compared to what you get for other crimes in this country. 12 months would have been the same deterrent, 10 years is nothing more than a headline grabber and fuel for the fear project.

When you look at other countries & how few deaths they have had it’s the UK politicians that should be thrown into prison for 10 years.

The only reason other countries of similar size/profile have had fewer deaths is that they are not testing as many people. If you don’t test for covid then you wont die of covid. Take Japan - 57,000 tests per million of population, UK 1.1mln tests per million of population.

It is from the very firs lockdown you're writing post blaming any action of the government and minimising the severity/risks of this virus.

Now, could you explain why you believe any government would impose a (not necessary) lockdown? For fun?

Ohhh that's an easy one!  They saw the media pictures coming out of your home country during the early days of the pandemic and wished to avoid a repeat of the same thing over here.  That above all else.  The avoidance of a media circus.  Hang the consequences and the lives lost to other diseases and suicides along the way.

Because it panders to the media, the scientists and the Facebook Karen’s who want it. Doing anything different is unpopular and this Government want to be popular.

when we were free of it which would have been possible had they not squandered us being a island now the place is bankrupt and still full of covid

“Free of it”. What does that mean? Globally we will never be free of it and new variants will continue to pop up. So I am assuming that you think we should keep our borders closed for ever.
