McDonald's

My normal "takeaway" intake consists of the occasional fish n chips or sandwich from the village cafe, however this morning I was presented with an unexpected McDonald's for breakfast.

It must be 40 years since I've had anything from a McDonald's.

I couldn't believe what utterly dry, tasteless food it was, like eating cardboard, truly disgusting.

I'm normally the one to hoover up food as I can't stand waste, but I chucked most of this away.

As they appear to do quite well as a business, what makes anyone eat there, is it just the convenience or have people forgotten what real food tastes like?

Or is it me and I'm just a fussy eater?

I love a KFC! OH isn’t a fan but I certainly am; unfortunately the local one in town has closed. 😕

Never use any of them here or in the States.  I always looked for an old beat down shack with a row of cowboy ranch trucks outside when in the States .  Proper food and proper coffee and always a welcome as soon as you stepped in the door....." Hi there, be with you in a second. Make yourself at home. "

Just the one then 😀

This could be a popular one.  The Mrs can't stand any of it but there you go. She can't be perfect all of the time.  Perhaps the op should go back in for another.   It might be better this time round.  The bestest burger that I have ever had was from a dog hut in Maidstone. There was a young bloke who must have gone 16 stone behind the counter.  He asked what I'd like and I  said that I'd like a triple whopper.   The lot.  He rubbed his hands and set too.  The burger he made was that big you didn'tknow whether to climb it or eat it. Oh and the strawberry milkshake.

I rarely eat any form of takeaway/fast food as I'd rather take a sandwich, and/or a good pork pie.  Having said that I did have an occasional Little Chef breakfast (you knew what you were getting and there was much worse around.)  There aren't many Little Chefs around now.

I also usually used to have a breakfast at Tebay on my way to Scotland every year, but it's got too busy now - and it was always expensive - though much better than the usual motorway services.

McDonald's is a last resort.  Like Little Chef, you know what you will get - and I have never had anything from either that has made me ill (which is more than you can say for some places!)

Fish and chips I do like as an occasional treat.

I remember taking my children into McDonald's, probably 20 years ago, when on a day out, I don't think they were that keen then.

I certainly didn't eat anything.

The best burgers ever, came from an all night truck stop on the A414 near St Albans, sadly long gone.

Their egg burgers were delicious, no night out in town (mid 80s) was complete without one, or three!

A local Farmer used to produce Beef for McDonalds but had to stop as he could not meet their consistently high standards in both welfare and quality. Apparently their buyers are concerned with reputation before cost.

Years ago I worked in a slaughterhouse.  Mcdonalds had their own butcher in there , and the beef they supplied and processed,  was absolutely top quality.

I could never figure out how they turned it into that xxxxx that they serve over the counter

I think the milkshakes have lard in them. Never use them but you can tell  where thay are just follow there bags and cartons thrown on the roads

and streets. Probabley more thrown away than eaten

I've heard lard, mashed potatoes and all sorts - All tosh. It's basically just a really, really good milkshake. Maccas are great at what they do and at the price point it comes in at and they are damned convenient. It's not great cuisine and you're not going to get your 5 a day there, but if you're hungry and on the hood, they are awesome.

Plus another vote for the coffee and ice creams as well

Any proof?

I think he might be right about the lard dave. Both of my kids worked at macdonalds when they were at college . Mcdonalds were very open about their products and practices with the staff , and I seem to remember,  lard , and huge amounts of , salt , and sugar , in the milkshakes . That was a few years ago , so things might have changed now.

One thing that I remember well , is that the most expensive part of a mcflurry , was the 5p spoon.
