Does anyone gamble online?

I joined one of the big online bookies last year, as I wanted to shove a tenner on the Grand National ( I won nothing on that bet 😂)

But I noticed they offer “Free spins” on the slots at regular intervals (usually get 5 or 10 free spins per day at 10p per spin.

Now obviously, the idea is that you’ll use these free spins and get hooked, so you’ll continue to play and deposit more money.

Here’s the trick, though… ONLY PLAY FREE SPINS!

Once you’ve played them, get out.

I’ve banked (i.e. withdrawn actual money) from my bookies account to my bank account £185 to date.

Don’t try this if you’re susceptible to being addicted to these things but they’re gonna cotton-on soon, surely 🤔

Not too sure about " slots " but a friend at work took a right hammering playing on-line poker .

Yep they let you win a good amount to start with then the jaws start to close ,win some then lose a lot, win a bit more then lose another load ,until your way out of your depth.

A programme some time ago showed that you have absolutely no chance whatsoever of coming out on top .

Example ,in one hand of poker the presenter found himself up against, at least one person playing for the house , a couple of chinese syndicates/ gangs who use computers to calculate the chances of each hand , and maybe one other innocent player .

A lot of the information came from a previous employee of the gambling company .

My mate nearly lost his house on that site .

Yeh I’m useless at poker, so wouldn’t touch anything like that!

Have a look at https://www.oddsmonkey.com it's a matched betting thing, supposedly you can bet with no risk? I cant get my head around it so haven't tried it.  The odds Monkey Facebook page is interesting as well.

Well, technically i’m not gambling with my own money. £185 in the black seems it’s not me that’s a mug 🤔

I'm in no way calling you a mug, what you've done appears to be a shrewd move.

What I mean is, trying to make a living from gambling is imo, a very bad idea.

Knowing someone with what we think was 20k in debt trying to win back their loss makes you realise its very easy to get sucked in, on the other hand i know another person that played the system and paid off a hefty lump from his mortgage.

Two entirely different people the one was quite a clever chap that knew when to call time the other didn't know when to stop.

Many years ago( when the internet and internet gambling  first became mainstream), I learnt about the martingale system ( doubling your initial stake until you win and then starting again)

All was well for a few weeks, and I was up to around £200 in “the bank”, when I decided to increase my stake to £2.
I then went on a huge loosing streak £2,£4,£8,£16,£32,£64, etc etc, until I maxed out my credit card and ended up betting £16384 on red.
I pressed spin, prayed, and thankfully it came in (red)

I banked the money, cashed in ( bearing in mind, that even though I won ÂŁ30odd k, I actually only won my initial ÂŁ2 stake!

Have never bet since that day!!!!!

A bloke down our street won ÂŁ70k and bought his house for cash (20 years ago) he passes my house 5 times a day walking

to the bookies... I reckon the bookies are back in front.

A friends daughter worked for one of the big online bookies and of the thousands of accounts she looked at only half a dozen

would be in front and they were the ones who would stake thousands on very short odds like Man City to one the league with

only a few games to play at odds of 100/1 on.

CEO of Bet 365 salary

I know a few years ago it was, in that it is a privately owned company - Yvonne used to sit in the office most days out of the week that I contracted there - and all the managers/leads were terrified of her.

quite a bit of their infrastructure is offshore as well.- nudge nudge wink wink

Ah man, I got caught on roulette in vegas on the first lads trip.

They had an LED display of the previous spins and there had been a disproportionate amount of red and so I stuck $5 on black. Anyways, the whole board filled up with red numbers and

5 to 10, 10 to 20, 20 to 40, 40 to 80, 80 to 160, 160 to 320 and 320 to 640 when I ran clean out of money. 7 reds in a row and there followed about another 3. I thought it must have been a Guinness record for red spins on the trot.

Taught me a lesson about statistics that 😆

In other news my bank just turned on a feature which enabled me to track all the money paid in from and going out of my account to gambling sites. That was a shock 😆

And to think that figure didn’t include days out at the casino, lads trips to vegas, days out at the races / dog track.

But, it’s one of those things. The first lads trip to vegas was epic, as too were my losses, but I’d rather have the memory of a cracking trip. So, all things within moderation  / tolerances.

Exactly what I done but thankfully I won at mid £200s (which in you have to include previous bets was about £500) just to break even. Scared the **** out of me.

I have won ÂŁ360 off free bets but the swines make you bet the amount given in one single bet before you can withdraw, luckily I did

I go to Swansea casinos every now and again, but tbh that's for late night drinking where there's no agro, and to watch the same Chinese lads put £10k + on a number. Makes me chuckle

It always surprises me that whenever people talk about any sort of gambling the person talking is a winner and other people they know have lost a lot.

I used to play roulette most weeks. I would set a spending limit by first buying chips and then pocket any gaming coins that I won and playing the chips out untill they were gone. I think over the course of a year I was up maybe just 4/5 times. It was decent entertainment for an evening for at most £50.
