This light came up on my dash and I had no idea what it meant

It was orange-ish colour so I thought it was probably a warning and I didn't need to stop but I didn't know for sure

Please offer your suggestions and once we've had a winner and/or a sensible number of responses I will let you know

Well thanks to everyone who has offered  an attempt. Hopefully for everyone that offered an answer there’s several more people just scratching their head that didn’t respond!

It’s actually the symbol to tell you the distance since you started driving on the trip. I was personally shocked to have a trip recorded.

So I guess

And I hope this has been informative and entertaining and thanks to all contributions most of which were better than the actual answer

Unnecessary!
Even in the 1930’s there were millimetres fitted to cars.
I suppose the symbol may be useful to some of the modern generation who never did sums at school.

Where are these fitted and what do they do/are they for? My first car was a 1930s Morris Minor side valve and I can't remember having one.

Sorry, my response was meant as a joke.

I agree with you it is another totally unnecessary add on because they can do it.

I don't think that is exactly correct. The circle with the line at the bottom means reset, so it's the distance since the trip computer was last reset. So nothing to be shocked about.
