TIGHTCHOKE Posted Sunday at 07:00 Report Share Posted Sunday at 07:00 Now I accept that we do not know the whole story and probably never will. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn4z9exnjdpo But if someone is carrying an air rifle in a "bag" he should be more careful to make sure it is hidden. Surely when the armed response team arrive, they go in "heavy" just in case it is a genuine case of a weapon out in the public domain. And surely as soon as the chap says it's an air rifle whilst possibly laying prone on the ground, the Police should check the weapon and let him go on his way? What is going on these days? Is there no common sense anymore?
rbrowning2 Posted Sunday at 07:16 Report Share Posted Sunday at 07:16 (edited) no common sense is dead. Hopefully if he is legally in possession on an air rifle in a public place he can take legal action for wrongful arrest and get compensation. old man Posted Sunday at 07:19 Report Share Posted Sunday at 07:19 (edited) There must/hope is more to this than reported? If not, it needs some serious sorting? Edited Sunday at 08:28 by old man

Dougy Posted Sunday at 08:36 Report Share Posted Sunday at 08:36 If what we read is 100% correct he was not doing anything wrong and within the law. And of course he had good reason..
JKD Posted Sunday at 08:59 Report Share Posted Sunday at 08:59 That report doesn't really contain much detail. Seems a bit of a non story on a slow day for the 'news team' ?
mel b3 Posted Sunday at 08:59 Report Share Posted Sunday at 08:59 As he was taken into police custody, I would guess that something more than just "carrying an airgun " has happened. The police do go a little bit over the top at times with firearms , but taking someone into custody isn't the norm.
TOPGUN749 Posted Sunday at 09:12 Report Share Posted Sunday at 09:12 They have shot people before for carrying a table leg in a bag and a battery drill haven’t they? All total madness, some police should never be allowed near a cap gun.

bruno22rf Posted Sunday at 09:15 Report Share Posted Sunday at 09:15 A golden opportunity for the Armed response team to top up their overtime after Christmas?
old'un Posted Sunday at 09:15 Report Share Posted Sunday at 09:15 Its the way it is now, police get a phone call and guns are mentioned, they go in heavy, as we know it even happens out in the sticks. bit odd that he is still in police custody, as said perhaps there's more to this than we know. Mind you, I would be very wary of carrying any slipped gun in any town or city today.

Scully Posted Sunday at 09:27 Report Share Posted Sunday at 09:27 Sign of the times I’m afraid. It wouldn’t and doesn’t stop me from carrying mine through town if needs be, but I’d make certain I had the relevant ticket to go with it. I carried a shotgun I was selling through town Friday just gone, to my place of work as I couldn’t lock my vehicle due to the severe frosts. No one batted an eye, or at least the rozzers weren’t called that I know of. Nearest armed response to us is 30 minutes away, so unless someone spotted me going into the property they wouldn’t know where I was anyhow. No ticket needed for an air rifle of course unless it’s S1. I don’t get the ‘remains in custody’ however, unless he kicked off or something. 8 minutes ago, oldypigeonpopper said: Hello, They still show the shop on the Web in York ?? you may well be right York Guns in the city closed down many moons ago sadly; it was my favourite place to shop for handguns back in the day. Owner was miserable but the amount of stock was akin to an Aladdins cave of firearms.
12gauge82 Posted Sunday at 09:34 Report Share Posted Sunday at 09:34 My feeling is there will be more to this story than someone innocently and legally transporting an air rifle from A to B.

In fact with so few Officers left to assault, they have started on Ambulance crews now too.

Hello, oh that is a shame, We had a great Gun Shop in Oxford City although now gone but Hans was the resident gunsmith and manager and welcomed everyone visiting with a smile, as a side note as a family we went to visit friends near York and found it a wonderful city Edited Sunday at 10:37 by oldypigeonpopper

When i was a kid (sounding like my grandad) if we saw a policeman (not allowed to call them coppers) we walked in a straight line and smartly, i dont know if it was from fear of getting told off or getting a clip round the ear for not walking in a straight line. Look at it now its turned round 180^ the coppers watch out for some odd bod to have a pop at them. Edited Sunday at 11:02 by Dougy
