Lead shot report in todays news

That illustrates perfectly the flawed approach taken by most of our shooting organisations to the lead shot issue. Anti fieldsports representatives are now able to manipulate the agenda despite no scientific evidence that measured the impact of lead shot use inland. The failure to contest further restrictions by questioning the available data and critically evaluating any evidence put forward to support a ban was a huge mistake. Instead the organisations conceded and in doing so confirmed the need for a ban to those supporting a ban solely as an attack on shooting sports.

Turn back the clock 10-15 years, what would you have done differently?

Hello, I shall keep using Lead Cartridges till i run out or i run out ??? 😄,  How many on PW have eaten Pigeons. Pheasant, Duck, Rabbit all shot with lead and still here , Our home had all 4 for cooking back in the 1960s, not forgetting those i gave/ sold to as those days house keeping money was tight for many families,

10-15 years ago there was no call for a ban on the use of lead shot inland. The logical approach when evidence was presented to bring about a lead shot ban away from wetlands would have been to instigate research to determine the impact of lead shot use over various grounds used for a range of shooting activities. If lead shot was found to have had a sufficient impact then a more measured response could have been promoted hopefully with the backing of the shooting community convinced by the evidence presented.

It is encouraging lead shot news for those people who shoot historic weapons  eg muzzle loading shotguns or breech loading shotgun because alternative  ammunition  would risk damage  to them .It is  recognize that their use  is limited in volume and the risk therefor would be low

so as I see it a ban on lead shot is to protect us all from lead poisoning "right" So who in the past "when a lot more lead shot game was eaten" has suffered from this? I would say that our Royal family has consumed more game than most people and it seems to have not done them much harm. Take for instance the late Queen and her mum. Just where is the danger?

As you are well aware, I personally have eaten lead shot game at least once per week for well over sixty years. Almost my staple diet.
The proposed ban is nothing to do with lead poisoning really, is it?

Just a "CLASS ACTION" against shooting in general, poorly hidden behind the toxicity issue.

If the removal of Lead is for human protection, then why are water companies still allowed to use the Lead pipework?

Why do trauma surgeons leave Lead bullets in gunshot victims?

It is just a stick to beat us with.

From what I gathered from the now locked lead ingestion thread the concern was the danger of lead poisoning to all birds that were prone to ingest lead shot even extending to woodpeckers extracting spent lead shot from tree bark. Still no figures to quantify the extent of the impact on birds shown to have ingested lead shot however. Mixed signals from BASC on this ,plenty of data produced apparently in support of a lead shot ban but a stated policy of voluntary compliance. It’s all been said before on various threads ad nauseum. Certainly a godsend to those who will never eat game meat but whose intention is to bring about the abolition of shooting live quarry.

The EU report was released this week with a 3 year transition but interestingly common sense prevailed an no ban on lead shot on clay grounds.

Plenty of effective steel loads out there, fowlers have been using them for years and muzzle loaders can use bismuth,

If you read the report of the Commission  Regulation paper  paragraph 39 explains why lead shot is allowed in  muzzle loaders  and early breech loaders
