steve_b_wales
Record (Baikal) #4 . A black cartridge with plenty of recoil. I still have a few left from the 1970's.

oldypigeonpopper
hello, my friends and i then using S/S most spanish did use a lot of S and Bs but the ones i liked most when i could afford some were the impax. i remember the baikals when they did go off made the barrels look like tar , now just the same cheap and cheerful for pigeon/corvids and goes bang 7.5s but they are a lot cleaner. just to add thinking about guns that should have kept and cartridges used reference the post i had a lovely S/S army and navy boxlock ejector churchill style and was a cracker with eley impax, paper, another gun sold and regret

marsh man
Anyone remember a cartridge called yellow wizard.[/quote 1960, tanner each. Same price as blue rivals and red rivals Andy You are right Doggone , I used to buy them from the hardware shop for 12/6d which work out at a tanner each , the same price at the time for Eley Grand Prix . My favourite cartridge for wildfowling was Eley Alphamax for geese and Eley Hymax for duck , a bit pricy but well worth it and no doubt there are cartridges on the market just as good now or even better , I still enjoy wildfowling now, but just thinking about those shells take me back to a time that can never be repeated. Gordon R
In the 1960s, I was just a kid and some of the local lads had 410, with the odd one having a 12 bore. I had only ever seen Eley shells, when Sellier and Bellot first appeared. It was as if they came from another planet.
shaun4860
Trap 200's and Baschieri & Pellagri F2's in a brown case with gold lettering. Both of the above, the Trap 200's were a dirty cartridge if I remember, But the B&P's I used to use were in a dark blue case, Also a budget clay load was Gamebore's Club Classique, came in a light blue case, I can also remember a Gamebore clay load in a red case, no brass visible, was a nice cartridge if not a little pricey, These days I use Gamebore Velocity, in Fibre, I just wish they did a different shot size to 7 1/2, Went through a phase of using Comp X in 21g due to a shoulder problem, I liked them, preferred the 24g but they stopped making them When I see them (which is rare these days) I buy a slab of a Gamebore clay load in a cardboard case red I think, in Fibre 28g 7 1/2's, name escapes me It's all in the mind though because at the end of the day if you aim in right place the clay will break or the bird will drop
TIGHTCHOKE
The Gamebore all plastic case was called Hi-tech if I remember correctly. Used Green ones for heavier loads.
JDog
A German gave me the left overs in a box of 200 loose blue cartridges. They were Rottweil. When I used them on partridges a month later I couldn't believe the difference between those and Eley Grand Prix which were all I had ever known until then. Gordon R
Baschieri & Pellagri F2's in a brown case with gold lettering I had some of these years ago. I wasn't impressed at normal range, but shot some DTL and, for a laugh, let the targets go a lot longer. I was genuinely stunned at how they powdered distant targets. Smokersmith
They were my 2nd barrel load for ABT at Jack Penningtons when we used to go there on a Thursday night and shoot a slab. I was around mid-teens and using my Dad's 101 Waterfowl. They also worked well on the bits!! It was around that time that the Blue Lights came out .... I can remember our scepticism over using 28g instead of 32g. How things move on!

McSpredder
Wish I had kept one of those 12g cartridges that were used for starting a Field Marshall. We had boxes and boxes of them on the farm at one time. Anybody else remember them?
TIGHTCHOKE
No, but I do remember other starter cartridges and all the Ejection Seat Cartridges that are derived from shotgun cartridges.

MY union armera has always had eley impaxs through it since it was new in the early 80s, I patterned a few different loads it just was so good on those eley impax i used them ever since dont think they changed much over the years i never noticed any difference in them. My AYA no4 its poor on impax its slightly more open choked but nothing special with them. Same as many guns some like certain ammo some not so much even with the same ammo. I take some pretty decent phesants with the Union armera Impax combo people are often suprised when they ask what im shooting and show them IMPAX. Feltwad
For any old timers living in the North-East most will remember the 12 bore cartridge supplied by Ward Thompson of Stockton called the [Oakleaf] I can remember purchasing these in boxes containing 100 they were a good trap cartridge. Also another supplier was Elton Stores of Darlington who sold 4 types of 12 bore cartidge know has the Competition, , The Pest Control, The Standard, and Trap shooting , these cartridges had the union jack on the case and were loaded with Greenbat smokeless powder from Greenwood & Batley of Leeds hence the name.To this day I still load this powder if I can get any because it is a bulk powder and can be measured in drms. grahamch
For game & pigeon baikals and winchester game bird 1oz no 6.5; For the shore Gevelot 1.25 ounce, gamebore hitec or good old alpha max. Recall using tracers shells for wigeon under the moon one night and getting a few odd comments!
Hamster
Winchester Trap 100 back when 32g was the norm we used the 7.5's (English 7) for clays and pigeon, haven't shot anything noticeably better since. Trap 200 were fantastic too but dearer, I used the Victory 550 brown case 7.5 and red case 8's for a good while back in the late 80's which were a decent shell but almost impossible to get nowadays. I have always hoped someone would revive the compression formed Winchesters but sadly I think it's no longer financially viable.
