Scully
I feel for you LG, I really do. As devastating as it is, I’ve come to learn that there is real consolation in realising and telling ones self that these things are just part of life. It is unbearably cruel and unfair beyond reason and belief at times such as these, but it is just that...life. You have my sincere best wishes. Lord Geordie
Thank you far all the kind words Guys! I got to tell her how much I loved her before she went. She wasn’t alone which would have been a huge guilt trip for me. Dad and I went to see her this morning in the chapel of rest and dad had a good old cry. He kissed her and told her how much he loved her before saying his final farewell. It cut me up to keep a stiff upper lip. As I told him, it’s not mum now, she has now gone on before him. As we sat sat waiting for the chaplain I wrote a eulogy for mum and showed it to dad. He had another cry and we spent time just father and son. We have a lot to get through in the coming weeks but as I said before. We will get through this as a family and be stronger for it. The heavens will seem a little brighter now she has gone. Houseplant
Very sorry for your loss. On 21/08/2019 at 14:00, Lord Geordie said: Holding her hand I couldn’t help but think of all the times those hands had an impact on my life, holding me as a child, feeding, nappy changes, winding, rocking the cot, pushing the pram, dressing me, working to provide for me, cuddling me when I was unwell or sad, helping me when I needed, congratulating me, patting me on the back, holding my hand and telling me everything would be ok as she lay dying. Touching words indeed and you are very lucky to have had this woman as your mother. My own mother wasn't really the mothering sort. She was never abusive, but definitely borderline neglectful at times.
Lord Geordie
Well Dad had his tests done, and we got the news we didn’t want to hear! They found a tumour in his lung. Luckily it’s the size of a marble. Apparently it’s caught very early. It was lucky in a lot of respects that he was suffering with chest pains on the day of mums passing. Had he not, he would not have underwent an X-ray and they would not have found it. And the specialist told him there is no way this tumour could cause chest pains either! Dad said “someone up there is watching over me” I said, “yeah! Mum” I was a little numb after I heard, but there was something about treatment. I assume radiotherapy or as it’s such a small size I am hoping they will simply remove it. So now it’s another waiting game. He is in good fettle all being considered. Still getting about and going to church etc, doing his bit of shopping and eating really well so i have no concerns of his mental state. Lord Geordie
Well his PET scan results are conclusive. He has Cancer in both lungs! They are looking to start him on a course of Radiotherapy over the next few weeks. He is perfectly OK with the findings and is not letting it get to him. Can’t say it’s not getting to me though. So over the next few weeks he will be in and out of hospital for the duration of the treatment. He will be really tired no doubt so will have to keep a close eye on him. Specialists seem confident it’s in an early enough stage to get it sorted so we have a lot to be thankful for.

figgy
Lord Geordie sorry to read about your dad's condition, how old is he? Friend of mine has had lung cancer caught when he went for a routine aorta scan at 64 or 65. He is three years in remission with a clean bill of health.
