Westley Posted July 21, 2020 Report Share Posted July 21, 2020 (edited) I did look at buying on line as I too have someone that could fit etc. Having looked at all options, I settled with the local National Tyres branch who were actually cheaper that any on line, after they had taken off the AA membership discount. It was just easier all round, I went across the road to Tesco's, bought a magazine and a coffee, returned around an hour later, job done. Of course I got all the usual guff about tracking being out etc. just told them I would get it looked at elsewhere. I have just been once again, looking on line on behalf of a friend, and again National tyres are only £5 dearer than the cheapest on line price. Shop around BEFORE you make the decision. Sussexboy Posted July 21, 2020 Report Share Posted July 21, 2020 I used Oponeo when ordering tyres for my truck, even after paying for fitting by my regular mechanic I saved over £200 on a set of four BFG All Terrains. And then you have all the hassle of getting them fitted, and balanced, and new valves supplied. All that comes in the price at a tyre place, and no hassle. If we don't use such people we lose them. My heavy duty 4x4 Land Rover tyres I have supplied and fitted by, again, a one man local company, who specialises in agri/off road tyres and again, is meticulous about the fitting and balancing. Again, use such people or lose them. I totally agree, and they're usually mechanics not part fitters or trained monkeys. They save the parts removed for inspection, don't fix it if it ain't broke and save you (me) a fortune. I've just had 4 proper heavy duty off road tyres on the Range Rover (see below) fairly priced and he suggested selling the ones he replaced myself but he could just as well have saved them and sold them on himself. JTaylor91 Posted July 25, 2020 Report Share Posted July 25, 2020 I purchased a set from black circles and saved about £150 all around even after getting them fitted elsewhere. I did have an issue with them though as because the car has wider rear tyres they sent the wrong model of tyre/wrong size for the rears then they sent 2 to replace which were the right model but still the wrong size. Forgot to add the choice available in my other post, the online provider's seem to be the only place I can find P6000's anywhere. I was looking at tyres for the MX-5 the other day, tried treadfirst in the local town and they came out around £70 a corner for Uniroyal's, and that was pretty much all they could supply without going to a budget then found the same tyre online for £35, along with offerings from all the other big manufacturers at sensible prices. London Best Posted July 26, 2020 Report Share Posted July 26, 2020 Beware! I once purchased some premium brand Avon tyres from a cheap source and had a local tyre fitter mate fit them. I had to take them back next day as the balance was wrong. Balanced again, three or four times over the next month before my fitter noticed a small R in a circle about 5/16 inch diameter stamped into the sidewalls. He said it stood for ‘regrade quality’. In other words, seconds. He considered them quite safe but advised that I kept below 50 mph or they would keep on shaking the vehicle to bits. I sold them cheaply and bought proper tyres. Then they did a deal to knock £56 off for having 4 tyres so much cheaper and I am supporting local firm.
