Lucky not to have been shot proper, think they would have used a taser rather than a baton round.

I don’t agree, the range of a taser is insufficient. The firearms officer using a taser would need to be far too close to a possibly loaded air weapon. Rubber baton round was a good call, as it was clearly visible the weapon was an air rifle. Good job by the ARU.

Firearms officers rushed to the scene and fired a "lethal baton round" at the suspect, leaving him with bruising to his arm.

A lethal baton round? Isn't the whole point of baton rounds that they're not lethal?

Scratch that, just dodgy editing; missing the "less" from the front of the actual quote :)

Yes, not pleasant being hit with one of those. I probably would ask for a tazer to be honest, that only last a few seconds, the bruise, possible broken rib etc will last a few days at least. Used to have bean bags for nutters, don't see them used these days. Still suppose all the veggies on the extinction rebellion would be nicking them:lol:

Open daylight situation there and easy to see what he had was an air rifle, now in the gloom of a house /building, if someone pointed it at me I might not ask him what it was.

Tazer not recommended for firearms incidents. When the subject is shot with a tazer, the muscles clench due to the electrical charge. If the subject has his finger anywhere near the trigger of his firearms, there's a good chance he will involuntarily pull the trigger with obvious consequences.

Think the police got this particular incident right and he was lucky not to be shot for real

I’ve got a couple of Barton projectiles, one hard nylon and the other a soft faced one !
would not want to be hit by either they are quite heavy

Not the weight as much as the force they arrive with!

I think that's best. Mind I'm told there's a lot of ladies of a certain age in N. Ireland with fond memories of the 37mm baton round. Always reliable, never went out drinking, never got home "too tired" and afterwards never fell asleep snoring loudly.
