Favourite .22lr ammo?

I’ll be getting back in to some rimfire shooting in a bit. Haven’t owned one since maybe 7 or 8 years ago, so availability of the ammo I used to favour has no doubt changed!

 

I found Eley subsonic hollow points were always accurate, no matter what gun I tried them with.

 

So i’m looking for some info as to which subsonic hunting rounds people are using and which ones they find most consistent and accurate, please 🙂

If you’re happy to do so, please indicate which model rifle you’re using with them.

Norma subs - made by RWS I believe and £5 a box at Edinburgh Rifles

Only ever used Winchester subs in my BRNO 2E in 35 years. Also £5 a box.

CCI Subsonic (hollow point) have always been good in my CZ452 apart from one bad batch.

I've stopped using winnies in my 452 because the spent cases were jamming in the chamber. I've started using Eley and Cci and have had no problems.

I tried the winnies in my 457 and they jammed too but Eley and Cci are no problem either. Tried Norma's but found they were not quite as 

accurate but not that far off.

Hello, it depends what rifle but after trying 5 brands my CZ 455 like RWS subs

Cci standard is my go to plinking.  Subsonic and doesn’t lead up my suppressor to awful bad.  Plus is only 6-7 cent USD over here.

You should try a few to find which suit your gun best. I am always surprised just how different guns prefer different ammo.

Winchester, Eley and CCI would be my starting point.

My browning t bolt likes eley sport and club, both are subsonic.winchester 42grain were awful- some are very definitely not sub sonic, go off with a real crack, others just pop and land 4" low at 50yds.

Thanks all… yes I’ll definitely get a few different types and test them out.

The likely candidate will be a CZ455 of some variant. I had a CZ452 and it was a lovely gun to shoot.

I've been using Winchester subs since the 1980's when they were 39gr. Work well with my CZ452

I find all CCI ammo is tight to chamber in my CZ452, they shoot well enough & extract OK but I now avoid CCI.

I find Eley to be wax heavy, but nothing wrong with them otherwise. CCI Maxi-mags were good in my magnum, but my go to for my CZ is Winchester subs.

My go to was sk hollowpoints by lapua. Absolutely brilliant ammo, only downside is getting the stuff!

The new style winchester subs are ****, a bunch of us have come to the same conclusion. The old box stuff was great!

RWS subsonics are fav but I must be very lucky with my barrel because it seems to be accurate with anything.  If it goes bang it hits the target.

I have the same problem with CCI in my 452 varmint. I started having jams with the Winchester subs as well, then some Eley. After a good clean of the chamber and a light touch of fine abrasive wrapped around a dowel all was good. Still a problem with CCI though, the CZ chamber seems to be cut to a very tight tolerance.

The older blue box winchester subs for me were the best , The newer black box 42g do not seem to group as well as the older one's

They was in a white box before that and originally called hushpowers, but i can't remember the box colour.

Remington 38grn hollow point sub sonics  also just started using cci 40grn subsonic segmented in my 49 year old BRNO mod 2  both are very accurate

In My Brno/ cz452 Used eley subsonic extra plus for years, Now Availability reasons mostly i am all Winchester subs.
