countryman
The locals are in disagreement over not cutting roadside grass for the wildlife, not sure if this is going on elsewhere or not, personally I have said it needs cutting and is dangerous on some junctions where the grass is restricting you view of on coming traffic, tragically a man has been killed now and it’s being blamed on long grass at a junction, the council were out the next day cutting said grass, any one else seeing this or is it just Hampshire. yates
Have to agree with you. It's great to encourage wildlife but leaving the vegetation too high poses an undue risk as the drivers view is obscured
TIGHTCHOKE
Round here it is either not cut or just a metre from the carriageway is cut. Councils also need to cut the trees in front of road signs.

Derbyshire is the same - this is a comment from our local FB group (non shooting related) after a major RTC at one such junction. "It’s not council cut backs, it’s vocal cretins in the media like Chris Packham interfering and forcing them to have ‘bio diversity plans’ which including not mowing hedges and not spraying weeds in the paths. Butts Road footpath is almost overgrown with thistle in the recently resurfaced footpath…."

sportsbob
Same in Somerset, the weeds growing in the kerbs will displace the surface and result in higher costs in repairs.
Genghis
Has the council reduced council tax in the area where they're not cutting grass? Don't worry, I already know the answer. Same as when they reduced bin collections to fortnightly but the council tax still had its usual annual increase. If the council want to cut back on services then they should cut council tax to go along with it. If your regular restaurant reduced the size of your meal but increased the cost every time you went then you would stop going. We don't have any option to not pay council tax so that's why they get away with this.

Rem260
I complained to the council about weeds in the pavement and kerbs. They replied that the government said it was optional if they were required to weed them. Being the case we have decided not to.

This is the trouble in this country - it is always down to the lowest common denominator - as they decided not to do it did they reduce and release that budget meaning they needed less council tax? Rhetorical question - we know the answer - the money was used for some hairbrain scheme that will more than likely either end up costing us more in the long run due to inflectional management by them, lack of foresight by them or just shere bloody incompetence. That or some method to penalise people more to bring in more money for them to have on the vegan lunches (I await Scully to take me to task on this ) and to repeat the whole process all over again.. The problem here is that last wingter (despite it being almost frost free around here) they put so much salt out, i has killed the grass for a foot to 18" from the roadside - and on narrow roads, lorries and the school bus pull onto what used to be grass (the roads are not wide enough to allow large vehicles to pass) breaking up the surface. Jaymo
I’m all for a bit of ‘biodiversity’ , but why not set aside part of city parklands for ‘rewilding’ and not the pavements and verges. Desolate Cities look bad enough already, without making them look even more **** by not up-keeping them. I don’t see this in other European cities that I visit daily. They do let me out to sample the ‘local wildlife’ and ‘nightlife’…. Little side note, our Crew Hotel in Turin forms part of the old FIAT factory ( wondered why the ceilings were so damn high). It’s the one with the rooftop test track that featured in The Italian Job. There is a museum and you able to walk the track, for a few of course.
