islandgun
Is there a limit to the number of guns you can own

An RFD can keep literally hundreds, but that is obviously a business, but again, security is the issue. I have a club member who has some 25 guns of various types, his business is alarm and electrical, and he never has an issue with FEOs. I have 9 , and am told if I hit 10, I need a monitored alarm. Imperfection
Allegedly, Herts, Cambs & Beds have a 9 gun rule. Over this-they want an alarm. Over 15 and it needs to be monitored alarm.
Scully
After Dunblane, a cousin of mine handed in 47 S1 firearms. I have no idea of the level of security he had, but he was an electrician so I’m certain it was up to spec’. No doubt times have changed since then, but I currently own 8 which require tickets, and until last month I owned 10. No security has been mentioned. Correction; forgot my two S1 firearms! So I still have 10! Edited December 16, 2023 by Scully

Old farrier
That would depend upon weather you live in a high crime area or not alongside a increased level of security and obvious cabinet capacity home office guidelines don’t stipulate a number although some areas do put a number on it

London Best
I once reached eight shotguns and four S1 rifles. On renewal Derbyshire FEO told me I was on the maximum limit and any more and a monitored alarm was required. I simply told him he was making it up. End of conversation. islandgun
Im assuming that if there is a limit, then it would apply per household, even if there are other people with a licence in that household
Dave at kelton
I know of people with tens of guns on a certificate. There is no limit I am aware of.

tonyshooter
I have 21 in SYP area. I have shotguns, rifles, combination guns and revolvers. I have a professionally fitted and accredited alarm system and CCTV system. Both are monitored. I have always exceeded what SYP would be asking of me in resect of my security. I learned this at work when my old boss used to say to us " lets do one better than the HSE would want of us " !
mossy835
my firearms officer, told me years ago hold 5, after that i will need alarm,
Krico woodcock
In republic of Ireland you need a alarm for 3 to 5 guns. 6 + and you need a monitered alarm. If your lucky enough to be granted a licence for 6. And they are trying v hard to tighten restrictions further.
ehb102
Wasn't there some home office guidance about alarms at 9 guns? Probably been changed and superceded anyway.
marsh man
Maybe one day the above requirement about how many guns we are allowed to hold in our household will become law , so we would then have to ask ourselves how many guns do we want with lead restrictions on the horizon , I am not into rifles and clay pigeon shooting , I have five side by sides and nowadays I could easily do all my shooting with three , One for wildfowling , one for Pigeon and game shooting and the last one as a spare. MM . So how many would YOU need with multi chokes nowadays the norm ?
bluesj
I was asked to fit a wifi camera thingy at my last renewal, I didn't think that was unreasonable.

It may be so in the future, but it currently isn’t, so it’s not about ‘need’ ( none of us ‘need’ to have them ) but more to do with ‘want’, and I want as many as I can afford if I’m honest. There are multi choked sxs’s out there nowadays also, so you could ask yourself the same question.

A SGC permits you to possess ‘shotguns’, not a certain number. Edited December 16, 2023 by London Best

Provided they have secure storage, it’s no more dangerous for an individual to own 30 guns than it is 1.
