keg
The Met Police were about to trial the use of these but this has been put on hold. According to the human rights group Liberty, the are cruel, inhumane and degrading. Being spat on, possibly risking disease isn't exactly a walk in the park. four-wheel-drive
Filthy habit spitting and it should be if it is not already made an offence I would say that this should apply to sports people gobbing all over the place you do not need to spit swallow it even if it just goes on the grass the players are falling down on that same grass, The other one that gets me is kicking people when they are down if they must fight use your hands there is no excuse for kicking people anyone found doing it should be locked up as they do with people using a knife or gun a kick in the head can do just as much damage as ether a knife or gun. So the officers that get spat at/on dont have rights so this vile habbit is stopped or restricted.. Again the criminal has the upper hand... I can agree with the first paragraph, but regarding the second, why don't they just lock up people for fighting, full stop?
Gonk
I thought these were in use by some forces already ? Quite right too, disgusting

As an ordunary citizen, I would find it quite acceptable for a police officer to kick the teeth out of someone that had spat at them. Harry136
As a former military policeman i think they're a good idea, if you want to spit at police then you should expect to be treated like an animal! I wonder if the liberals prefer the liberal application of a fist to the mouth !
Lloyd90
I'm pretty certain that spitting onto someone is classified as an assault (rightfully so), absolutely disgusting and vile and should be prosecuted if done!
roadkill
should be allowed and then they should be allowed to whack there baton across there filthy mouths
Sha Bu Le
Few weeks ago I read somewhere an American police woman had died of TB after a scrote spat in her face. (don't really understand as I believed TB was easily treatable with antibiotics). What with all the other diseases out there spitting in some ones face should made a specific crime (not just a common assault) and subject to severe penalties. Having said that a crim can stab someone and get community service. (Aren't human rights wonderful). Wonder if a Liberty do gooder has ever been gobbed in the face. Edit = added a bit of sarcasm Edited September 7, 2016 by Sha Bu Le
toontastic
JV discussed this yesterday and they mentioned a police officer died in the 70's after catching an illness when someone spat in his face. They also mentioned over 100 officers had to be treated last year after picking up a virus after being spat on.
felly100
I don't know why they haven't started using those darts that are used in safari parks for subduing lions. A lot less hassle.
pigeon controller
I'm not sure , but will be corrected that spitting was an offence during Victorian Times due to the spread of disease. So if they spit arrest them . The only concern is we do not have prison space, again follow the Victorian system and use our unemployed to build prison camps and give the law some teeth. To support the post we should not have to issue spitting hoods use the law not wimp about human rights.

old man
Sadly, just an indication of how the rights of the individual seem to have become more important than the rights of the masses. Needs to change back society IMHO. As for the gobby footballers a £1000 fine should help? Edited September 7, 2016 by old man

norfolk dumpling
Watched 999 Whats Your Emergency a couple of nights ago and spit hoods were in use there (Manchester?) and to me, these seem an excellent solution to a really nasty problem. My only criticism was they still allowed the person to breath!

Penelope
They don't allow criminals to spit at and bite policemen, which Liberty think is a down right liberty. What is the problem with them?

Muddy Funker
Surrey use them, they work. Maybe someone from Liberty can have their face spat in by some scroat then they can make a better informed decision?
