chrisjpainter
No chance. A good slug of those that voted for "remain" were higher rate tax payers who were voting for the norm and stability; that does not correspond with a vote for labour or indeed a vote for Corbyn. I think it's a clever and strong move. Forget everything else - does anyone ever see Corbyn winning an election? No. Also, Labour won't and can't run on a campaign based on no brexit; they'll lose mass support in the North East in places like Sunderland. The only party that will run an anti brexit will be the Lib Dems, but that's fair enough because they've always been anti, through every vote or debate since and will stick to it. Rightly or wrongly, they show more integrity in doing that than a flip-flopping labour. But even with a strong protest vote, they're not going to be strong enough to be a majority and, being antibrexit, no one's favourite for a coalition. A protest vote only suits the Tories. Scully
I didn't see it coming but reckon she's got it right. This will see Corbyn obliterated and Labour reeling on the ropes, and leave May with her own Mandate instead of inheriting the seat from Cameron. Bring it on; can't wait! May have to change my avatar! 😃
old man
Power corrupts; absolute.................... Yes and that "may"be the green light to the privatisation of the NHS. I'll bet Virgin, Sodexo and all of the others will be working out how to disseminate the assets, watch the share prices.

Would be if declared but sadly fear most will not see it coming due to other distractions. Possibly a lot don't give a fig, can bitch when it's too late. daveboy
What about the fixed parliaments act 2011 ? I think she will need a 2/3rds vote to call an election. http://www.parliament.uk/about/how/elections-and-voting/general/
Gordon R
Can't bear Wee Jimmy Crankie but she has got better legs than May... You are 'avin' a larf. Quite admire Corbyn's stubborn refusal to smell the coffee but wouldn't vote for him I am struggling to get Corbyn and admire in the same sentence. Cranfield
Its not a "Leave" or "Remain" election, they are not replaying the Referendum. The Liberal Democrat spokesman I heard today said that anyone who doesn't want a "hard" Brexit should vote for them. I think/hope the Conservatives will win, but I think the LibDems could pick up a few voters from the "Remain" camp. Labour should lose their deposit. I think it will be a low turnout Election. I'm sure a lot of Labour MPs are very fearful, but if they vote against it they are showing their fear and they lose all credibility. fuzzypigeon
And all those UKIP votes washing back into the Tory party.... Anyone who pays tax and has an IQ in double digits and above will be voting Conservative. The lib dems may scratch a couple of extra seats, but politically they are nowhere. Also there now appears to be a sense of getting behind a leader (who is clearly the best of a bad bunch) and so it's going to be a Thatcher-esque landslide. All you diehard labour voters, get your crying out the way now because it's already over before it began . Brilliant!!
toontastic
The lib dems are obsessive over Europe it will be the only thing they'll campaign on. Tim farron is an idiot after the Berlin truck killer fled and travelled across Europe farrons response was he was still 100% behind free movement and nothing the Berlin killer did would change his mind. old'un
Perfect move by May, not sure about a landslide victory but she will win and be in a stronger position for it, Corbyn will resign or Labour will split or both, the Lib-Dems might steal a few seats. May comes across as very astute, I think a win will see her become a force to be reckoned with and put her in a much stronger position as we start the Brexit negotiations. I would love to-be a fly on the wall in Labours head office, bet Corbyn has little beads of sweat on his forehead with Abbot standing by his side rolling her eyes and mopping his brow. I don't think Corbyn gives a 'fig'. He never wanted to get into power, he knows he could never hack it. He is quite happy spouting meaningless Socialist babble like he did on TV today. wandringstar
I dident predict it, but I thought she should, and I am not really surprised, there are plenty of manifesto issues to be campaigning on other than brexit, maybe she should start talking about how she is going to get this 1.4 trillion debt massively reduced, she should also make grammar schools a massive policy as it is starting to become, I can see the benefit of giving ordinary people a top class education via a test, even though I was a failure at the 11 plus, also apprenticeships for those that aren't academic, Don't underestimate the amount of people that will vote for corbyn, every immigrant is a given, every student, every public sector worker etc, he has a large pool of support, I don't think he will do as badly as people say, he only has to get his act together for 8 weeks and people will forget his previous and go with his rhetoric..........people are very odd, with short memories. Gordon R
Don't underestimate the amount of people that will vote for corbyn, every immigrant is a given, every student, every public sector worker etc, he has a large pool of support, It's a bit of a quantum leap in logic to assume that all these people have little intelligence. With all this alleged support - why bother with an election? Just hand over the keys to number 10. Sadly, on Planet Reality, few people rate Corbyn, as the polls show. Bookies don't seem impressed by his chances - or complete lack of them.

TIGHTCHOKE
Wow. She's throwing the dice, but it seems like an educated gamble to take absolute control. Labour are totally and utterly unelectable and the LibDems are in the wilderness. This is designed to get her a massive majority and then start some spring cleaning inside the Tory party. I didn't see that one coming but it makes sense. She will gain her mandate!
wandringstar
All I am saying is, dont think he wont make a fair show, loads of people love the class warrior stuff, many young people think socialism is a new thing that has never been tried, intelligent people make mistakes Gordon. I vowed never to vote again after the last election, I suppose I will, it's not a tory party how I imagined it would be, but as the current popular saying goes, 'it is what it is'.
