I was reading on another shooting forum that one of the members had put a warning shot over poachers heads next thing he knew was plod confiscating his rifles shotguns and his ticket.

But the only way they could have found out was by another member off that site as it is a closed site to none members so be careful what you say

If he was thick enough to say it on a forum then he probably shouts his mouth off elsewhere. He was rightly shopped on @ let's hope he never gets them back. The idiot shouldn't even point the gun never mind fire it off.

The person that shopped him did right.Just goes to show that idiots can obtain firearms!

I can't see how firing a shot over some poachers warrants having your guns confiscated.

Really?

To my mind theres 2 issues here and the second is being daft enough to put it in writing and on a public forum

If youre that big a dafty then you shouldnt be left alone with the big boom and bang bang sticks.

Unfortunately the police will look for any reason however tenuous to confiscate . The usual in interest of public safety reason is a catchall that is very hard to contest

And it sounds like the individual in question deserves it and wont have a leg to stand on legally.

Can't believe what I've just read !There are those that actually fire off warning shots and those that think it's acceptable !

Are these recent posts (guns in self defence and this one) just posted to wind people up.If licence holders are firing alledged warning shots, then maybe tuffer vetting for licences is required.

I have to agree with Davyo here.

I don't see this scenario in the light in which it's being portrayed. I see it as good work by the police. If anyone engages in delivering warning shots - you have to question whether it's a bad thing they were honest enough about it to get caught.

If you think the irresponsible actions of others could never lead to a change in legislation that would eventually affect every other license holder - you're mistaken.

I have met and shot with dozens of people that have issues with safety/health/mental issues. FEO's have a difficult job.

The same with many areas, until you do something wrong (or get caught doing it) it's very difficult to block them from accessing those things.

Seconded. What if the alleged poachers fire back, does it end up like the OK Corall all over a Pheasant or 3 ?

The only word of caution is Did the boy actually do it?

It's not as if no one on forums exaggerates the truth or actually lies, is it? Some of the marksmanship and ballistic properties some bullets show on here show would be world beating.

Wot did the boy actually write? He shot over their heads or he should/would like too?

Was it a figure of speech?

If the boy was actually stupid enough to do wot he said then yes he does deserve to lose his tickets.

But u still have a case with no witnesses, where no one actually know's if it happened never mind wot exactly happened

If he was seen shooting on purpose over the top of someone head he deserves everything and can't be surprised

Wot's to stop malicious allegations, I know of folk having there guns taken of them for non existant arguments with neighbours

More and more often the polis just take guns away before asking questions

How times have changed...

When I was a youngin a bloke we nicknamed Shotgun Willy would shoot at us if we were on his patch with cartridges filled with rice. We found out the rice bit later on in our childhood, & the shooting bit was always at distance....not knowing anything about the 12g at the time it scared the hell out of us.

Another farmer would shoot dogs on his land & charge 10p for the cartridge if the owners wanted their dog back.
