Just out of curiosity and not wanting to derail the BASC  thread if you had one cartridge left in your gun and a crow and a pigeon was flying towards you which one would you shoot for me it would be the crow every time.

You could just as easily do that on your second shot  

Or you could ***** the bird and miss with the second as it's going away.

 

Or you could have 50 carts in your pocket, ***** the bird on either shot, and then lose it.

But if I only had the two cartridge in the gun and none in my pocket etc I wouldn't take the second shot I probably would take the first. I'd go and get more cartridges or go home

Pigeon I reckon; I love to see that ball of ‘chaff’ when a pigeon is hit. 🙂

I would go for the wood pigeon every time. They fly with much more purpose and style, they catch my eye. I’m happy to shoot crows with a rifle on the deck and do not see it as a waste, would never do that with a wood pigeon which is too fine a sporting bird.

Ditto. That’s a fair point, and one I hadn’t really considered until now. 
I hold the wood pigeon as a challenging bird, in much higher regard than the title of vermin in which it is regarded. 
If it could be guaranteed that the numbers would be there, I would much rather spend a good day in the hide than a good day driven.
