This coming Saturday my old school is celebrating its 50th .That is official 50th but actually it opened in September 1964 .

Question I ask my self is, do I drive the 340 mile round trip to look at the rebuilt old place , perhaps see some of those I was at school with one or two old teachers .

Or do I just stop at home and remember how much I really disliked the place a lot of the staff and many of my fellow pupils ?

I went back to my old schools summer reunion a couple of years ago, the place looked massively different with the old lake gone and no sign of the air rifle range near the woods :| , barely recognised anyone except the physics teacher who looked as though he hadn't aged and of course the now retired bent old head master. It took all my class to avoid him because it would have been very tempting to ruin his day.

I've worked at my old school fitting doors and a few of my teachers are dead now and to be honest they were horrible to me.

We had a reunion a few years back at a 30th party and I still hate most of them lol.

I was bullied all through school as I have a walking issue and was glad to leave .

My advice is save the fuel money and spend the time with your family

Depends on your situation really. I hated school and college and missed lots of college as would rather be on motorbike than in college being moaned at... I was told categorically I wouldn't amount to anything In my life by a school teacher and head of year, but got ok grades, then college was the same - head of year and my politics teacher told me I'd get nowhere and would be lucky to stack shelves... So when they had a presentation evening for our results I went and we all in turn were invited to the stage for our official Certs and the old toad Neil struggled to speak when announcing me and that I worked in London for a top publisher. I also recently went back to my old school to do some seminars with the kids in 'career clinics' being run by my old head of year - also priceless. :-)

Would I go back to a reunion , not so likely , the day I left school I vowed I would never go back and 54 years later I have kept to my word.

If it was a case of going back to meet up with the teachers ( who are all dead and buried ) and some of the pupils , or giving up my S G C , I would have to seriously think about weather I want to carry on with my lifetimes passion of shooting.

I escaped a small shoe factory town and having no family left there I don't have any reason to go back but through my brothers Facebook I noticed nearly all of my mates have married each other's sisters and since the factories went they are all in mass unemployment

I wouldn't go back but if I did I'd be unbearably smug as I feel I've done better than any of them ever believed I would!

Fortunately I am in the same trade as some old school friends whom I never saw for years and now see them now and again

Wouldn't waste any effort going to a reunion, what's the point?

Unless you have anger issues and really need to let off some steam with those that have affected your life then go a head make your day

On the other hand try some fine rums and cigars from around the world, chill out and think about them sad suckers that carnt not go.

Like them retired people from work who have to keep popping back, move on bud sod em

I enjoyed school, well i enjoyed the rugby lessons. It wasn't until i went to tec that i realised that the maths teacher i had in school was absolutely rubbish,I never scored above 56% in school,in Tec i passed with a 98% the old maths lecturer there was a genius in explaining formula to me and teaching me more in a year than i got in 4 years from school.Just shows what a difference a good teacher can make over a bad one.

Would i go to a reunion?Probably ,i missed one 10 years ago,i see some about and time has not been kind to a few.most of my good mates are spread around the globe, a lot of us joined the forces and travelled.

Like most of the previous posters on here i hated every second of school and couldn't wait for the day i could leave.

From what i can gather from mates who have been to these reunions they tend to go along the lines of ,

"Yes i've had my own incredibly successful company for the past 10 years "....means he hasn't got a pot to **** in .

" When they offered me a promotion to the Paris ,Milan ,New York office i turned them down for the sake of my family ".. means he's still sweeping up the workshop .

A long with the pot bellied toothless comb over romeos crawling around the place trying to rekindle old flames with equally unattractive ex prom queens ,no i dont think i'll bother thank you very much .

Absolutely not, too many old scores to settle (teachers as well as other pupils) which after 50 years are still remembered. Might add it was a catholic school and 50 years ago they were not the nicest of institutions. I was also rather a small kid at the time so fodder for a lot of toe rags. Not anymore yoo hoo..

Only ever seen one classmate who was a bit of a teachers darling, first name Hillary (I suppose after Sir Edmond Hilary's conquest of Everest). Calls himself Larry now, wonder why. Anyhoos he did not recognise me but was wearing a mucky boiler suit, I know does not mean much but I went to work in casual clothes and if we had visitors a suit and the dreaded tie.

I went to college (part time) years after leaving school and I have to say school was the rats bum.

I do go back to my old firm now and again, I made some good friends there during the 22 years I was there.

FWIW, stay at home, never go back.

P.S. My old Head Teach? They came to take him away, honest.
