chrislightning
I have (currently) a Hatsan Escort and I’ve just about had my fill of the thing. It’s the most temperamental gun in existence, and so much so it’s about to lose its place in the cabinet. It was purchased in haste with little to no research. So the question is what should I look to exchange it for? I’m not looking to break the bank as I’m also looking for an o/u. First and foremost I want something reliable, it’s fine to be second hand. Budget of up to and around the £700 mark. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, Chris

oldypigeonpopper
hello, not forgetting the Armsans or for a bit more money the Franchi affinity, i am sure there are well known brands that have the odd gun with problems,
mark a
Hi i also had a hatstand which drove me bonkers chopped it in for a maxus and never looked back. Mark
mick miller
I never know why anyone buys one. Spend a little more and get an Armsan, mine (for the short time I've used it) has been faultless. Pretty much a plagiarism of design, based on the more expensive Beretta I'm led to believe. You can't go far wrong can you ditchy, mines rougher than a cats tounge on the outside but cycles everything about 24g without complaint. I very much doubt I'd get rid of it even if I did by another semi.
sabel25
There's a good M2 Benelli in the gun sales thread slightly over your budget but would be worth a look

Fen tiger
For another gun i can not fault the advice for an old £00 series Beretta semi or as sully mentioned the Browning B80, they are briliant i have an old B80 its early steel action version bomb proff. But my advice is hold off just yet unless your dead set on another gun at any cost, But my advice is sort out the Hatsan . They are not at all bad they can give issues but most are curable with proper cleaning and lubrication, if it needs parts they are readily available and for a semi auto despite the price i think they are incredible. Thats my opinion .
vampire
Franch raptor 712,does everything you need and cycles any load without ever jamming, comes with shims to adjust fit.
Westley
Another vote for the 303. I have owned a few different makes of auto, but the 303 comes out top of my list. Compared to ANY of the later Beretta models, and I have owned a few, the 303 is by far the easiest to clean and lubricate and as such is by far the most reliable. The Armsan looks to be reliable and good value, as does the Franchi Raptor. Just watch for split forends on the Raptor (and the 303 too). My 303 has had several thousand rounds through it and I am now using 24 gram Cheddite without any cycling problems. After a 100 bird sporting on Wednesday, it took 20 minutes to clean the gun, ready for it's next outing. With 1/4 or 1/2 chokes in, it will take care of anything you shoot at. GingerCat
Beretta 390, 391. Plenty of change for carts.

I have had a couple of 391's and they are simply over-engineered and thus harder to clean..
