Talking to his doctor he stated that an American Docter had taken one of the cartridge manufacturers to court re the toxic fumes emitted from shot cartridges. I told my friend that I often get a lungfull when loading in a panic but if it is toxic should they not state on the box??? I've put my tin hat on and retreated to the bunker!!!!! old'un Posted March 14, 2019 Report Share Posted March 14, 2019 Not sure how toxic the fumes are but over the years when shooting in calm-ish weather and ending up with a lung full of smoke on opening the gun, it used to give me an headache and on the night I did notice a bit of a sore throat but it had gone the next day. Is it dangerous? Well I don’t think I have suffered any lasting effects after shooting for 50+ years. Don’t spread this around or the government might put a pollution tax on our cartridges. Would explain a short term headache but I would imagine you would have to shoot a mathematically implausible amount to suffer long term effects from that. lancer425 Posted March 14, 2019 Report Share Posted March 14, 2019 Those old S&B mark 2s paper cased 11/8 oz used to smell and make my eyes water i just put it down to old long recoil semi auto and my left handedness throwing residue in my eyes never thought about fumes. cant say i ever noticed my eyes running with gas autos just the old inertia recoilers on some of those cheap cartridges . Popped a fair few thousand primers in the last 70yrs and still getting around pretty well. Like anything, take too much and it will kill you. Some clay shots fire 5000 a week and I don't see any of them with shortened life expectancy or a link with any nasty diseases so I think we can say that they are not hat bad for you. Then I bought some old stock that was left. The powder was different to what I'd been used to. When did you buy your Little Devil cartridges Perrazzishot. I have had the mother of all headaches from handling 808 plastic explosive without gloves, the nito glyceryne seeps into your skin,the older members of my troop who knew all about it thought it was very funny.
