“The biggest threat to climate change is people thinking they can’t make a difference”

Expertly demonstrated above I think!!

Exactly. You don't eat an elephant in a single bite. Small steps and all of us playing a part. It will take radical change to achieve the targets and our political system is not cut out for considered change particularly working together across borders.

The thing that gets me is the experts don't know what caused climate change in the passed, not the medieval warm period or the little ice age or even the warming that happened at the beginning of the last century or the cooling that followed that but from 1979 its humans that have done it!

Ok. Can you explain to me for example, the logic behind the thinking which has resulted in councils who want to tax me for driving into Newcastle because of the air pollution caused by my vehicle, will happily allow me to do so on payment of that tax?

I know its not politically correct to say it but I don't really care a Flying  about climate change because I don't really believe it. Since Climategate, to me it has been discredited.

World population growth - yes. massively on board

Destruction of rain forest -yes massively on board

plastics - yes massively on board

Climate change ? yawn, same old advocates trying to sell me an electric car and pay more money for things I can buy now for less

Lesson, the most plausible answer is usually correct, it all about ££££ not the environment

I read today that the founders of this group live just down the road from me. They've been playing up locally too, spray painting their logo all over the road signs etc and walking in the road with banners. Luckily they never walked in front of me with a banner, I'd have run the pricks over.

The stupid morons hold up public transport to moan about emissions?! That says it all really. They haven't got a clue.

Item one...population growth which has resulted in everything else but nobody will see the elephant in the room and we keep applauding the multi producers of more and more humans.

Look at the swathes of our countryside being concreted over with houses at this very moment, just a drive into the outskirts of my local town , Nuneaton, where hundreds of houses are now being built on what was once good agricultural land supporting all sorts of wildlife.  ... Cause?   Excessive population growth., more people need more houses produce more waste, use more energy etc etc.

It seems that champagne socialist Emma Thompson had to fly in from LA to attend the demo... really?

Another gob on a stick, caroline lucas couldnt attend as she wanted to be with her son who had just "flown in" from America.

The hypocrisy of these morons is staggering.

Hypocrisy is cancelled out by their monumental self-importance and virtue-signalling, so all's good.

Saw this on the new this morning summed it up for. Would have thought Emma would have stayed in LA and not flown 5000 odd miles banging out a load of CO2 to get arrested in London.

Maybe a protest in LA trying to close the airport would have been better? Hang on though the nasty American police probably wouldn't have looked kindly on that or have been as understanding and they have tazers :)

hello, it must be very frustrating for all those police officers involved despite looking very friendly, all leave cancelled, no time with their families, 500 arrested, whats that £500, 000 court costs?, NOW ARRIVED AT HEATHROW

Hmm, well actually I rather suspect in this age of austerity they will be enjoying the double pay and nice weather. I know I would be and have done previously. Their families are used to it as it happens all the time. Sad but true.

Climate change has happened time and again for millennia.

We are not a cause of it, by our destruction of rainforests we may cause parts of the word to become more serif. But worldwide we have been warming up for a very long time.

Hundred years ago the Thames used to freeze up where you could have a fire on the ice.

The UK used to be tropical.

Whilst we are taxed to the hilt and waste lots on eco so called green options. Other countries are burning poor grade coal by the tens of thousands of tons a day. Germany for one.

Round up the vandals among them and jail them, they may think twice about being so radical in future.

I feel its fair to blame much of the worlds over population on cultures whose men can have umpteen wives of (nearly) child bearing age to produce more soldiers to fight for their religious wars. And the big plan is for the UN to redistibute many of them throughout Europe and UK which is only fair - in their eyes.

Pretty much with you on all of that.  Sort out lines 2 and 3, and that will help CO2 levels drop.  But I do encourage sensible use of fossil fuel resources ....... as they are finite.

In many (most?) cultures around the world having a large family is what gives you financial security for the future, it affords all kinds of other protection in countries where there is no other form of assistance.

The countries that you talk about are not the problem. We are the problem, its the West that uses the resources, it's the West using the plastics, cutting down the rain forest, putting out the CO2. Countries like India and Bangladesh could have 5 times the number of children that we have here and still be less polluting than the UK.

Without doubt , one of the daftest things youve ever said on here !

Do you think all these billions of Indians, Bangladeshis , and other 3rd world people with massive populations, live some kind of eco life, at one with nature ?
Besides the fact that half of them want to come over to the west and live just like us , belies the issue that they are just as rubbish producing, just as CO2 producing, energy using as us, but without our environmental controls, and theres 20 times more of them .
But you say there could be 5 x more and it wouldnt make a difference ?!

Youve put the mental back into environmental

If no one ever (themselves included) made anything at all. Nothing. In that country. Not even electricity. It would be an extremely doubtful claim as just by breathing they are producing co2.

Truly the craziest of claims yet.

We are talking about population impacts per person. See the earlier chart. Yes they are largely far more eco than we are. They buy less stuff.

Yes but they are using less resources. When you switch on your torch thee cadmium comes from the ground in some where like india. Who has caused the pollution, who has used the resources?
