Danger-Mouse
According to the BBC the police may now stop you whilst you are out. If you do not have a legitimate reason you can be fined £60 (£30 if paid within a week). Successive fines double. Those who cough or spit on key workers will be charged. One man is in court on April 1st, another has already been sentenced to 26 weeks in prison.

AVB
Before this kicked off the police didn’t have enough officers - your car get nicked - no chance of seeing anybody, house broken into - somebody might come around five days later, shoplifters, criminal damage - all ignored. Now, despite the police apparently having so many people off such with the virus, there seems to be no shortage of police to persecute people taking their dog for a walk. Seems odd to me. The reason it seems odd is that it is not true and the government are trying to create a perception. Take a city something like Leeds, I would bet that there are no more than about 30 front line officers on duty . Even if this micro thin blue line was effective, all the police do is put people into the criminal justice system and then their job is done. The criminal justice system is basically a farce to make the legal profession rich. Even then if the offender gets dealt with, what happens. We are in the process of releasing convicted prisoners because the system cant cope.

The fear and paranoia created by these measures is quite palpable, more so than the disease itself. Ive got friends who look at you goggle eyed because you went for 2 walks during the day, like youve suddenly become a major criminal ! Couples who dont live together, saying they cant see each other for 3 weeks, or they will be arrested. Shoppers staring at each other in suspicion , because they approached closer than 2 m , in a 2 m wide aisle. A cough, or someone clearing their throat, summoning images of sickness and death.... Yes, be sensible, dont deliberately flout the rules just because you can. Protect yourself and others, try practicing some basic hygiene , for what will be for some, the first time in their lives. But for gods sake, stop thinking that if you do catch it, and you very likely will, that you are going to die. If crime has diminished to nothing, then I would expect the police to make themselves useful in checking that people are adhering to the 'rules' Otherwise, I would expect them to keep catching CRIMINALS, not people who might want to go for a drive..alone, or go and see their partner. These are probably the most draconian rules I have ever known my life, please dont accept them as being 'normal' , or one day , you might find they are. Imagine pre-Corona asking the police to disperse a gang of drunken, swearing anti-social teens loitering on your road. No chance. Now suddenly they have the capacity and will to stop sensible people taking sensible precautions while out and about.

I know its an unpopular idea that the measures are too much, and Ive resisted saying anything so far, Ive no doubt that many will consider me irresponsible. 17000 people on average die from seasonal flu every year in this country , 95 % of them over 70, in 2015 , the butchers bill was 28,000 , I dont remember any lockdowns for that. Hype and media frenzy and then a guy comes on tv and says "bed time now. Off you go and I'll tell you when you are allowed to get up" and everybody has gone. In the time that we've been using the term covid19 20000 people have died "from the virus" there would usually be 20M people die in the same amount of time. So 0.001%? Of deaths being attributed to this virus. Why is the tag line "stay at home, save the NHS...."? I've read some stories online about how "people have infected because a sick person grabbed their arm...." like it's some sort of zombie appocolyse disaster movie. So much hype. That and diminished demand for resourcing as there is little crime at the minute apart from domestics. Not many car crashes. My last 4 days have been breaking up groups of people, parties and bbq's and dealing with dead bodies with the occasional fight at a supermarket. Edd Simply because by delaying the spread of Covid19 we are allowing the NHS Staff to be better prepared and to manage to treat the flow of patients. By doing so we make best use of the hospitals and facilities, rather than have a mass outbreak that could not be coped with and that would lead to more deaths through lack of treatment. Really VERY easy to understand.
