countryman
What a surprise, very little money in the pot it would seem after a detailed look at the books, if these Politicians had to run there own business in the real world they would all go bankrupt in a year, yet here they are running the country. Disgusting.
welsh1
How convenient that labour have found a 20 billion black hole, no doubt taxes will rise to cover that black hole. Is anyone surprised by this? And now they will blame the Tories forever more in the same way the Tories blamed brown for selling the gold or the note saying there's nothing left, and forever more the Tories will be beaten with the 20 billion black hole trick. Everyone with half a brain knew labour would be raising taxes, and here is the start of it.
Newbie to this
We have been broke for donkey's years. The trouble is we don't portray ourselves as broke, we still portray ourselves as a rich country, the land of milk and honey. https://www.nationaldebtclock.co.uk/ We have surpassed 3 trillion in debt and it goes up over £5000 a second. We are crumbling from the inside out, and there is NO light at the end of the tunnel. 2 minutes ago, welsh1 said: and forever more the Tories will be beaten with the 20 billion black hole trick. It will be the TAX payer that is beaten, beaten until we break. 3 minutes ago, welsh1 said: Everyone with half a brain knew labour would be raising taxes, and here is the start of it. Mice!
Has anybody else noticed that since the election there is work being done on the roads? I'm in and out of Cumbria and Lancashire regularly and I'm seeing lots of work all of a sudden, this can't be down to new money, it must be that those in charge were preventing the work from happening to discredit the Tories. JohnfromUK
They haven't "spotted" a black hole. There is a very simple reason the black hole is there; The Tories struggled to control spending and ended up reluctantly raising taxes (mainly by the stealth of freezing thresholds), but still barely made the 'books balance'. Labour have (mainly and with great evasiveness) 'promised' not to raise taxes (except a few confined to "the rich" which will actually raise very little and 'windfalls' which won't help growth), so little or no extra income over what the Tories planned. They have 'promised' to increase spending dramatically - more for the NHS and Doctors, renationalise the railways with more for train drivers (their union pays a lot to Labour), more for public employees, a "British Wealth Fund", and state energy outfit (led by the useless loser Milliband of all people), more immigration (less control) and LOTS more - some of which the Tories also promised (extra defence spending etc.) Same(ish) income, spend MUCH more - result - big deficit (or black hole if you like). It's schoolboy economics ........ but apparently beyond Rachel Reeves. Edited July 28 by JohnfromUK

Jega
Find it very hard to believe that Labour didn't know the true state of the nations finances when the Office For Budget Responsibility publish their reports twice a year . Obviously Starmer and co find it easier to blame the tories for the undoubted forthcoming tax rises .
