Well the day is here

Not a good day. I took mine to the vets for an exploratory op' around four weeks ago now and they found a massive tumour. Had to rush home from work for the kids so they could say bye to her.

I shed a tear or two earlier in the year at MIL's funeral, but cried like a baby when my little Border died. Chin up; it's just life.

Brings a tear to my eyes. Iv'e had about 25 dogs since i was a kid and its the worst thing in the world having them put down.

Iv'e always found that having several dogs at the same time makes it a bit easier when you lose one as you can console yourself with the others.

Not good at all.

Totally sad day.

Had to do this to our family pet many moons ago.

Yes a sad day.

Me too Kingo, on the way to the vet took her to the beach and the Leazes at South Shields, the places she used to like but she just could not be bothered.

.

Wife & kids (now adults) still say from time to time how much they miss Tammy. Not a nice decision to make but with all of her problems had to be taken.

Just remember the good times and all the trouble they got you into. (What who me ?? I never did )

Sorry for your loss.

We had to have Rollo our Border/Jack terrier cross PTS 5 weeks ago at 8 years old.

He was up the woodland with us on the Monday, but a bit quiet and not running around as much as he normally did and went to sleep in the van all afternoon.

On Tuesday he was lively again, so we though it was a one off.

On Wednesday he was very subdued and his ears inside and gums were pale. Took him to the Vets and had some blood tests and came away with antibiotics.

That evening the Vet rang to say his blood cell counts were way out, so it was more than an infection.

He went back in for a scan on Thursday and the Vet rang to say he had a massive liver tumour which was rupturing and leaking blood into his abdomen.

We were back at the woodland on Friday to bury him.

This poem says it all.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this — the last battle — can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close — we two — these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Never easy and always sad...

Just console yourself to the fact that you gave her the best life she could possibly of had and the best way out of it too .

I spoke to my vet the last time I had to have two dogs put down within 6 months of each other ( both were only 5 and 6) and he said he had carried out countless similarly over 45 years as a vet and not one person had ever told him they had regretted the decision.

Have a few in memory of your friend tonight. bye2.gif.pagespeed.ce.-b_0gAl0t0.gif

God, do I feel for you, had working dogs all my life but the last one broke my heart, he was the best dog (mate) I have ever owned (ESS) had him put to sleep at home when he was 7 years old, diagnosed with a inoperable brain tumour, I cried like a child for most of the day, it upset me that much I couldn't go to work the next day.

RIP Betty
