Over 1,000 cases today

China reached 80,000+ cases before they got it under control and now they're back down to a hundred or so a day. But China's population is 1.3 billion. If you extrapolated China's 80,000 cases down to the UK's population, it would work out to around 160 cases - in total. Maybe their policy of total suppression wasn't such a bad one after all.

We are very lucky to be much more aware of social distancing and washing benefits with the benefit of information and advice received from locations that suffered it before us.

Well those of us who have been sensible enough to not ignore the advisories and not go out to the pubs etc.

It's unlikely too spread to badly here. We don't **** in the streets, spit everywhere and trade live koala's and wolf cubs at food markets like the mainland Chinese do. They're pretty much medieval.

Two months on and it seems to be spreading quite badly here even though we are not as medieval as the Chinese.

hello, i foresee this will put up prices of a lot of consumer goods, Supermarkets have no scruples when it come to profits, Sainsbury just put up a pint of milk by 5p, they will all give some excuse to justify this, i bet the milk producing farms do not get paid extra, its all down to profits and share holders just like the big house builders,

I forgot to factor in how thick and selfish most of the British are these days.

I read on my local facebook pages yesterday some people 'crowing' about how the local townspeople were enjoying being able to walk round the town browsing the shops, socialising, meeting friends etc ..... and how everyone wasn't letting the situation 'get them down' despite the fact they couldn't go for a drink or a coffee.  Others - were responding to all of this in some horror - especially about the local kids having gathered in groups and managed to pull up some trees in a park area and start a fire which caused the fire brigade to be called out.

It is a shame the virus can't be selective and take out certain elements in society!

Indeed, people had to have their pubs and diners closed for them rather than choose to stop going out to mingle in a bar.  Women - yea and men going bingo were no better, facing others at a narrow table.

Sure we get close and pass in a shopping crowd but that's much more essential and protection can be worn.

Don't worry, there's plenty of thick and stupid people of all races. The UK has definitely got worse over the years, I believe it is in large part a consequence of globalization.

Whilst I believe a larger part is played by the subsidisation of the thick to support children they couldn't otherwise support.

Daughter reports that in her small city hospital Corona 'bed cases' up from 3 to over 50 in a week reaching capacity. Staff starting to go down with virus and a shortage of protective kit (PP3 masks). All F1 doc's being promoted early (5 months) to F2 without pay rise and med students being brought in to replace them. Volunteers urgently sought from Biochem students (unpaid) to deal with increase in testing. Evidence that severity of infection proportionate to infection dose.

I misread and thought you said your daughter had gone down with the virus.  I very much hope that she does not contract it.

Cheers. She thought that it was pretty inevitable 😞. She has just finished a 72 hour six day week and now her day's off are cancelled. Work load is off the scale.

Two ENT doc's in London (late 20's) were on ventilators having contracted the virus, having received heavy doses of the virus through work.

But it is, it can infect us all, selecting the old, the weak, the vulnerable and health workers in close daily contact with it. The young, fit and healthy get a mild cough and fever.

Its a bit Darwinian but compare to other species when sickness occurs, only the strong survive

Personally, I fear this virus as 2 of my three daughters have immune system issues, one, an nhs worker, has just been instructed to self isolate. She lives alone. My 75 year old mother in law who has some health issues was meant to return home to Mongolia but her flight was cancelled. She is staying at home with us. Her flight is currently rescheduled for mid May.

Its worth noting that Mongolia, with a border with China has had  only 4 cases, contacts were traced and tested negative and the infected quarantined. Long may it stay so

That seems nuts, I realise the NHS is stretched but working them to the point of exhaustion isn't going to help surely.
