EU trying to steal our vaccines

Just had a scan over the news at my tea break there and it seems that the EU is trying to get the Astra vaccines (made in england) diverted to the EU as there is a shortfall in supply. The vaccine makers have said that as the UK ordered their 100 million doses 3 months before the EU, they are fulfilling their contract and getting theirs first, the EU is apparently raging at this and is threatening to block any EU vaccines being exported outside the EU.

They seem to think threats and demands that it be diverted to the EU is just them getting their "fair share"

Maybe it's just another way to beat us with a brexit stick, I say they can jog on

Absolutely, the producers and UK government made a contract before the cumbersome EU got their slow burn act together. I think they'll be beating us any which way they can - such as petty rules like lorry drivers not taking their bacon sarnies into Calais. Right turn Clyde.

Perhaps we should withhold contributions to the EU, which we will be paying for a short time. No fishing quotas. I know they will retaliate, but they are playing with our lives.

They are a truly pathetic bunch.

Much as I thought Maggie Thatcher was a lunatic, I can't imagine the EU treating her like this.

Not sure that the eu have given the Oxford jab the ok yet, so the can't even use it!

That's right. They're bitching and lashing out because A-Z are limiting supplies to the EU of a product the EU hasn't even approved for use. You really couldn't make it up. What smegging planet are they living on??? 🤣

They are expected to give it the OK on Friday, so why should they be allowed to demand they get it instead of us when they hadn't even given it the go ahead. I can imagine Nigel farage's laughing already

From what I understood - the Pfizer jab is made in Holland - but when the EU went to buy they (Pfizer) said sorry - others are before you!

So, the EU have turned round and said that all orders for vaccines to an EU company from countries outside the EU have to be passed by the EU.

I believe that they can't touch the Oxford vaccine as it is made here. This would affect any further orders for the Pfizer one that UK make

Unless things have changed since yesterday that I haven't seen???

The EU are demanding the UK made Astra Zeneca made, Oxford designed vaccine is diverted from use in the UK to be shipped to the EU.  They are also threatening to block export (from Belgium where the European factory is located) of the Pfizer vaccine.  I doubt the American based Pfizer Inc will much like that.

They delayed for 3 months in ordering the Astra Zeneca product - and people criticised us for ordering early and outside the EU 'consortium'.

They have not yet approved it (despite having had the data as long as the UK has) .......... so cannot actually use it.

They claim it is only 8% effective in older people - yet their programmes (like ours) start with older people.

The fact is - they have made a complete mess of their whole programme and are simply trying to divert the EU citizens public anger away from them by bullying, making false claims and outright lies about the test results.  It is a tale of delays, incompetence, lies and bullying.

The AZ vaccine is manufactured in three plants in the UK, The Netherlands and Belgium. The NL and Belgium plants have suffered delays and hence the EU have told/asked AZ to honour the contract to supply and use supplies from the UK plant to do so.

AZ are saying that they timelines in the contract are not legal binding as they were ‘best endeavours‘.

I am not sure what the fuss is. It’s a commercial agreement between AZ and the EU nothing to do with ‘us’.

I'm sure you will all be still drinking European wine and beer and buying European goods  ........   NOT

Now that's the real issue isn't it.

The people are the ones that can make Britain great again, but ensuring they buy British.

But when it comes down to it, most prefer to talk and then buy the cheapest
