rabbit_stu
I just managed to sell my car and the buyer paid in cash, close to £9k!! It feels pretty strange to hold it. Made me wonder, with all the electronic transfers that happen these days you never really get to appreciate the volume anymore more, so if its not personal of a question, how much have you held
Hendrix's rifle
3 grand cash to buy my ktm a couple of years ago, sounds a lot but was a steal. Bloke split from his wife and needed cash urgently, happy days 👍
moondoggy
Held a cheque for one million pounds from Boeing. It was a milestone payment for military aircraft parts.
ferguson_tom
I had 10K in my pocket when we went to pick up our miniature traction engine from Devon. On the way down we stopped in oakhampton and went for a pub meal in middle of nowhere. At end of the meal my brother said we should get out quite quickly, turns out the landlord was talking to his mates about when there next delivery was coming in....and he wasn't talking about the dray!!! Good meal though

saddler
I used to work in a main bank cash depot during university holidays for a couple of years. There was about £60 million in the building...I sat on cages of about £2M each day to have a buttie & brew at break times. Had several 100,000 in my hands at one go... Literally after less than a week it just becomes bits of paper - esp. as I was operating a sorting machine to send a good %age of the notes off to be burnt: saw it as "clean pile" & "burn pile" Most of my own was about £5K after I sold my Gulf War kit collection. Danger-Mouse
About £25k when I was 15, not mine though, it was the deposit on a new house. Edited April 7, 2016 by Danger-Mouse
markm
15k, when we were getting building work done on the house. I do think that's why people get into financial difficulties, if someone owes 5k, it's just a number, why not 10,15,20 etc. If people seen it in notes, it would make a big difference. Even £1000 in £10 notes is a lot of money. Edited April 7, 2016 by markm

oowee
My former wife joined a scheme much to my displeasure. She said I had lost more on shares than she was risking. One night she came home with £45k and put it on the table. There was so such a pile of cash including about £5000 in Scotish £100 notes that we bought a safe to stuff it in and it wouldn't fit. It went into a few carrier bags and shoe boxes. Paid for a nice holiday in St Lucia and an extension on the house. Fuji Shooter
What is this cash you speak of, my wife won't let me have any as she thinks I waste it on rubbish like guns, cameras and cars. Houseplant
Personally, only a few thousand for second hand car. A friend handed over GBP28k to a builder in a carrier bag for a house extension. It was a lot cheaper off the books.

MrM
Rather a lot - but then we were putting in some machinery into the bank of England printing works! Most depressing for some of the other engineers at the time were at the plant where they burnt the old money.
