hodge911
sitting posting this feeling well peed off . Friday teatime me and the mrs went to the metro centre for xmas presents for the grand kids and I ended up in A&E for 48hrs . I can just about remember parking up and the next thing I remember is the paramedic clicking the seatbelt on the stretcher in the back of the ambulance …. my wife tells me we were walking round when I turned to her and said I needed to sit down as I felt funny and promptly collapsed to the floor bouncing the back of my head off the tiled floor and going into a full blown seizure .. biting my toungue frothing at the mouth and shaking . from collapsing to coming round in the ambulance took around 45 mins . I,m home now on the mend but it looks like my season is done as I can not drive until I,ve had tests done and got the all clear [fingers crossed] from the Drs . as I have never had anything like it before hopefully its a 1 off . they say it comes in three well this is hopefully my third the other two been loosing jess my dog/best friend then shortly after having to break in to my sisters house to find her passed away now this [all since end of may this year] Edited November 12, 2019 by hodge911

They had to be 12 months clear of a seizure before they could drive again, regardless of what meds they were on.

bruno22rf
You need to be very careful driving wise usually you need to be seizure free for a year before your licence is re-issued, assuming, of course, that you informed DVLA? Centrepin
Hope you are ok soon. You don't need to notify DVLA unless you are told to. I had a similar thing whilst shopping with the Mrs, she said I'd do anything to get out of it. On a serious note, it did happen to me and I had three months off work, DVLA notified. I was an HGV driver class 1, used to do long haul. Passed fit to drive again the hospital said it was a one off. Six months later backing onto a bay, I came round in the Ambulance and was told I'd had a stroke. Spent a week in hospital having tests. I can now walk again but not very good. I now suffer from mieniers and diabetes on insulin injections and sleep Apnoea. DVLA revoked my HGV (& PSV) and my car licence is on annual renewal. Now retired (early retirement) I'm classed as disabled, I had to discuss this in detail with my FAO who is happy for me to hold a SGC. Ask your doctor to test for mieniers or vertigo, it'll cost you nothing and "may" prevent the same happening to you.I wasn't tested the first time, only after the stroke. Its quite common for shopping centres and supermarkets to bring this on, it's the eye and neck movement, constantly changing colours and shapes and the isles. Get it checked while you can, better to prevent it, than find out the hard way. Good luck.

bruno22rf
Not sure you are correct centrepin - the onus is on the driver to inform dvla of any seizures - it is not down to your GP/Doctor, however, should your GP discover that you have failed to notify, they can break confidentiality protocol and inform DVLA themselves. Bit grey in areas but if you have another one at the wheel I'm guessing you would be in a whole heap of trouble.
ninjaferret
Look at it this way, all things, come in 3's 1st You saved a fortune, just think what the other half would have spent. 2nd Your saving on fuel and all the chew of parking down there again, and 3rd There's always next season and at least you'll be around for it. Speedy recovery mate.
DoolinDalton
Best wishes mate for a speedy recovery. Lets hope that is indeed a one off incident. At least it happened in a place that you were able to get help quickly.

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned not reporting, but once reported and DVLA are involved it can be hard, long winded and expensive to get back. Due to the fact I held HGV & PSV I reported by email to make sure I stayed legal re work. The point I was trying to make in my post was push his GP and specialist to do every test available known to man to prevent him having another. I was pushed into returning to work inside three months by both the specialist and GP. Result: A stroke some months later. Only then did I get the tests, MRIs, scans, etc that where deemed unnecessary and too expensive at the time.
