What can you shoot with a crossbow? That you can't shoot with an air pistol or rifle?

You can't hunt, most ranges probably wouldn't let you on, and the power makes them dangerous,  its only the power that most people want them

Do you also advocate that we should all drive around base model cars as all people want performance cars for is their power primely. No need for a GTI when a lower power model will get you there. Cars kill around 3500 people a year with excess/inappropriate speed being the main factor. No need to go faster than 70mph with most cars not using motorways we could even restrict cars to 50mph just to be on the safe side.

It was a real scumbag who committed this crime - from a real scumbag family too by the sounds of it.

It’s in none of our interests that individuals like this can get hold of a crossbow. If the end result is that crossbows are classified as Section 2 then I see that as a good thing. If this man had applied for a SGC then he would have been rejected by the sounds of it.

If the usual suspects use this event to stealthily introduce more restrictions on shooting then that’s where I will make my opposition known. Hopefully this will not be the case.

In summary, if someone is seen fit to possess a shotgun then they should be permitted to possess a crossbow. If they  would not be seen as fit to possess a shotgun then they should not be permitted to possess a crossbow. It’s as simple as that.

Without wishing to take the discussion off topic, I'd have no problem with speed limited vehicles, what justification can anyone have for owning a car capable of more than twice the highest speed limit in the country?

With regard crossbows, I have no interest in them and wouldn't want to own one, however I'm sure some people do.

If you have and can demonstrate a legitimate reason for owning one, then I'm sure you'd have no objection to controls that prevent casual purchase.

This ^^^ it follows the same logic. It's far easier to restrict minority interests than those of the wider public. Soon we will be eating steak with a spoon.

As horrific as this is, if the "scumbag" didn't have access to a crossbow, he would still have committed this atrocity with another weapon/implement 😕

And pre-minced too. But that's known as being geriatric.

I am not really into bows or crossbows , but what do play on my mind is how can the  father and husband of the deceased ever get over this nightmare , I lost my wife just before Christmas through natural causes and even seven months later I still miss her every day , that poor man must be going through hell and no words from the world over will ever bring his wife and daughters back . Which would effectively ban them, because people wouldn't go the hassle of applying for a licence 👍

I would like to know how he managed to tie up three people, (presumably unwilling), before shooting them? Something not right there.

I doubt we will ever know.

A 26 year old arrested ( in hospital in critical condition after being found wounded). Sounds like a person who shouldn't have had access to a plastic spoon nevermind a crossbow.

A nightmare for the family and friends of all involved.

Apparently he shot himself in the chest with the crossbow.

I'm not sure why we're wasting NHS resources to save him so he can then spend the rest of his life in prison.

I've been thinking the same thing, he's lost his wife and daughters in the prime of their life,in the most barbaric circumstances. I just don't know how anyone can ever come back from that, it's awful to read about, I've thankfully no comprehension how he must be feeling, I'm glad to read he has one other daughter, as at least he still has something to live for.

Bring him back to health and then hung drawn and quartered, if there's any justice.

I think the problem we have in this country aren't weapons, but culture.

Now the scrotes know the effectiveness of crossbows, it's criminal use will exponentially increase. Take acid attacks as an example, it didn't used to be an issue in the UK and was unheard of, as attacks began to happen here (the reasons for that I'm not going to go into), criminals realised acid was easy to get hold of, highly effective in achieving their aim of intimidation and violence and was able to do extraordinary damage to their victims without killing them, therefore avoiding being charged with murder if caught.

I would hazard a guess that more people have been assaulted/killed by golf clubs but we don't hear a call for them to be licensed/banned.

The clue is in the name ‘Golf Clubs’. Why call them clubs if you’re not going to whack someone with them?

Golf bats is a much better term. It really winds up golfers when you admire their lovely set of bats. 😁

I’ve read his brother is doing life for murder as well.

I suppose someone will defend him pulling the PTSD card, had he seen any active service or just done the basic training and then jacked ?

This is exactly the problem, it becomes cool and part of the scumbag culture that is so pervasive in this part of the world. In the UK for a while it was converted blank fire pistols that enabled scumbags to rattle off rounds before they blew up in their hands, then there was the acid attacks as you say. Knife crime has always been here.

It's no different to the USA and the continual back and forward over gun control, the problem isn't the object used in the crime, its the criminal that for whatever reason has decided he's going to commit a crime

This is why I don’t think the knife carry laws work. If somebody intends to kill commit murder with a knife then they’re not going to be worried about a potential 5 year sentence for carrying the knife - they’re already committed on partaking in a much more serious crime. The knife carry laws are more likely to cause issues for those who legitimately need a knife than prevent any crime.

What’s needed is more stop and search, particularly in areas where knife crime so high - whether it causes offence or not. Most of those who kill with knives are already well known to police.
